The family thanks everyone for their thoughts, prayers and acts of kindness. “ATTEMPT TO LOCATE: Our soror, Amber Debnam, and her wife, Shavon Odom, have been missing since Monday, February 11. Please contact the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in Columbia, SC at 803-576-3000 with any information on their whereabouts or state of mind. We are hoping for a safe return and ask that you please share this graphic and message with your friends, family, peers, and network groups, especially any in the local area, as the families seek your assistance in locating them.”

Today we honor the history of . A day in which the announcement of the abolishment of slavery finally reached the last of enslaved African-Americans in the state of Texas on June 19, 1865, 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. We celebrate how far we’ve come since that moment and recognize the work that is still to be done for equality.

“Listening to audio tapes of children crying out and seeing photos of people in caged facilites has us heart broken. The emotional trauma that has been inflicted upon numerous families should not be experienced by anyone and the practice needs to be prohibited. We firmly oppose and speak out against this policy as it is not, and will never be, the answer sought when it comes to immigration reform and needs to be challenged.”
