09.19.2026 ~ Sisterhood: Celebration of Bonds. The joy of coming together, celebrating the unique relationships within the Women of Distinction, Inc. It was obvious the day demonstrated sisters in strength and the importance and commitment to embracing everyone’s unique journey while remaining connected.
Women of Distinction, Inc. gathered for a heartfelt sister outing, a day devoted to bonding and supporting one another. Members came together to enjoy a delightful lunch before attending the stage play *HATS*, a poignant production written, produced, and directed by our very own sister, Maxine Wright. Fourteen (14) sisters sat together in a reserved prime location at the venue. To show unity, all wore the same beautiful hats with different colors to set the vibe of the day.
HATS: This powerful play delved into the often-overlooked challenges of dementia, exploring the family dynamics during such a difficult time. At the heart of the story was Paulette, the main caregiver, who made significant sacrifices to support her mother. Paulette’s son, who had put his college dreams on hold to assist his family financially, found himself navigating unexpected responsibilities when his girlfriend became pregnant.
Meanwhile, Paulette's older sister, who had seemingly achieved success while living in another state, brought her own struggles to light. Haunted by childhood traumas related to her dark skin and the battles she faced growing up, she eventually returned home after losing everything. Initially, she concealed her reasons for coming back, until her young son innocently revealed, “Daddy is gone,” leaving the audience to grapple with the weight of familial love and loss.
The stage play was hosted by Jesse T. Hall, who created a warm and inviting atmosphere for all attendees. WOD shared laughter and heartfelt conversations, reflecting on the themes of the performance and the actor’s roles they witness following the play.
Alfreda Stukes, shared with some of the WOD sisters after the play, “Sisterhood is not just a bond; it’s a lifeline.” The warmth and camaraderie of the Women of Distinction, Inc. was shone brightly today, and it should remind us that we are indeed sisters for life. Understanding we have priorities that starts with family and busy schedules, but supporting each other when time permits through every challenge and every success is paramount.”
