Check out a new video sharing the vision for the Huie Nature Preserve to create a recreation and educational amenity unlike anything in the metro Atlanta region.

Phase 1 includes walking trails, archery and disc golf, outdoor classroom/creative play areas, group camping and open space with multi-surface trails for biking/walking, room for picnics and a splash pad.

Our Vision “Utilizing the site as a natural recreation area would meet both goals of protecting the property and making it a community asset. We want this Preserve to be a place where children can play and learn in a way that is totally different than anything they have experienced. Our mission is to increase and enhance the recreational and educational aspects of the Huie property in a manner that is consistent with CCWA’s mission as a water, sewer and stormwater provider. The CCWA customers supported the acquisition of the Huie property and supported the transition from land application to constructed treatment wetlands. While some of the property is still needed for current and future operations, the vision is to invite the public to experience the tranquility and natural beauty of this property where appropriate. The vision builds on the Melvin L. Newman Wetlands Center and the Shamrock/Blalock Reservoirs, and the Shamrock Community Use Building to offer complimentary and expanded recreational and educational uses.
