In 2005, while on a mission trip to Peru, Keith Collins, a full-time youth pastor from Austell, Georgia, was inspired by a young nursing student in Pachacutec, one of the poorest poverty zones in South America, who said to him “you’ve given us tracts, you’ve given us Bibles, when are you going to come to build a church?” This became a question that would change his life path forever. Within a year and a half from being asked that question, the Collins family made the transition from the United States to Peru as full-time missionaries.
With humble beginnings, while learning the language, culture, and building relationships, the Collins family began ministering to the people of Peru by hosting Bible studies on a stone wall in Pachacutec. They felt called to build a church, and in time, God provided for them to purchase a piece of land just 50 feet from the stone wall where their Peruvian ministry began. This land became the foundation of Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida (Bread of Life Baptist Church.)
While in Peru, Keith partnered with Pastor Rolando Chavez, with hopes that he would become the national pastor for the church. Suddenly, Keith grew ill and he and his family had to unexpectedly return to the states. Thankfully, God’s timing was perfect, and Pastor Rolando was well equipped to become the national pastor of Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida.
Since 2008, Pastor Rolando has been a friend, community worker, and pastor to the people of Pachacutec. Iglesia Bautista Pan de Vida serves people of all ages by providing support, ministries, meals, and basic needs to the Pachacutec community. Most importantly the church faithfully shares the gospel of Jesus, “the bread of life.”
