Agape Project would like to highlight our board member, Claude Garcia for her tireless work in our community. Where many others have come short, Claudia has stepped in and filled many voids. She’s been quietly taking care of the homeless community in Hall County for over 15 years. She never asks for recognition or praise but we believe that “it’s best to give people their flowers when they can smell them.” Thank you, Claudia, for always stepping in when asked, speaking up for the silenced, and lending a hand whenever needed.

As the saying goes “Death is a cruel mistress.” We are all guaranteed to die but it doesn’t change the fact that it hurts. Rob fought a hard battle with cancer for a long time. Along with his battle, he fought the viciousness of homelessness. As his body raged with pain, he was fighting hunger, the extreme cold, the extreme heat, and an overall lack of safety. His strength was inspiring, yet daunting. How could we, as a society, let this go on? Rob deserved better; all of our homeless friends deserve better. As you remember Rob, also remember his brother, Mark, who is also homeless. Mark is a veteran who served our country and not only was he failed by the system but he’s been failed by life. Don’t let Rob’s story be muddled by his circumstances but let it be a reminder of how far we have to go in ensuring the stability and prosperity of our fellow man.

Today, we honor fellow servicewoman in our communities: Sylvia Akers from Gainesville, GA and Shirley Raines from Compton, California. Two women who were separated by zip codes but united in their love of their communities. These woman were blueprints of “love thy neighbor.” They’re both inspirations to their respective communities and they’ve left a void that cannot be filled but a void that will be honored. We thank them both for their tireless efforts in creating a better community.

Today was a busy day for Agape. We were able to help our friends with much needed resources that included an ID, a replacement permanent resident card, and military and government benefits. We have to meet them where they are and come together to get them the resources they need. Thank you to Michael Fisher for his assist as well.

Sweet treats and heat for our friends. Today, we were able to provide some much needed supplies and snacks for our friends. We’re thankful for other organizations such as Clean Start and Lamp Ministries for their continued support and love shown to the community.
