💜🖤 What a journey. What a season. What a young man. 🖤💜
Nationals didn’t end with a medal around Derrick’s neck, but don’t let the placement fool you—this season was an incredible success. 💪🏾
This year started with setbacks, injuries, and moments that could have made him quit. Instead, Derrick chose to keep showing up. He trusted the process, put in the work, and kept believing, even when the road wasn’t easy.
His first-ever AAU National Junior Olympics experience was one to remember! 🇺🇸🔥
✨ 27th in the Long Jump out of one of the toughest fields in the country, soaring 22’ ¾”.
✨ Competed in the 100m against the nation’s best, running 11.15.
For a 17-year-old competing on one of the biggest stages in youth track and field, we couldn’t be more proud. ❤️
What has impressed me the most wasn’t just his athletic ability—it was his character. The way he handled his emotions when things didn’t go exactly as he hoped, the maturity he showed in managing his expectations, and the grace he displayed throughout the week spoke volumes about the young man he is becoming.
And one of my favorite parts? Watching him continue to cheer on and support Kaelyn through her journey. 🫶🏾 Whether he was competing or finished with his own events, he was still encouraging, celebrating, and showing up for someone else. That’s what being a teammate, a friend, and a leader looks like.
Champions aren’t only measured by medals. They’re measured by resilience, humility, perseverance, and heart.
Derrick, this is only the beginning. Keep building. Keep believing. Keep soaring. The best is still ahead. ❤️🦅
