ESAAlliance and the survivor community were mentioned in an article yesterday regarding the allocation of opioid settlement funds in Kansas. We are excited to see increased awareness of Enthusiastic Sobriety Programs and the survivor stories that are being heard and respected.

To summarize the article, the Kansas Fights Addiction Board raised concerns over state lawmakers’ allocation of opioid settlement funds without the board’s approval, diverting nearly $8 million to various programs. The board emphasized the importance of adhering to the established process to avoid jeopardizing the state’s settlement funds. Notably, concerns were raised regarding the allocation to Full Circle, an “enthusiastic sobriety” group, amidst allegations of controversial practices. The move to allocate funds directly by legislators rather than through the board’s process has sparked debate over fairness and transparency in fund distribution.

Thank you featuring Enthusiastic Sobriety Programs for your season finale! This was a hilarious surprise that covered so much of the experience of these programs. Thank you to your friend, whoever they are, who told you about their time in one of these places.

We hope this inspires our survivor community to reach out to other podcasters and pitch their story or the story of the Program! It’s a wild one.

Loaded language (also known as loaded terms, strong emotive language, high-inference language and language-persuasive techniques) is rhetoric used to influence an audience by using words and phrases with strong connotations. This type of language is very often made vague to more effectively invoke an emotional response and/or exploit stereotypes. Loaded words and phrases have significant emotional implications and involve strongly positive or negative reactions beyond their literal meaning. Sometimes the words are unique to the cult itself, and a group that has not one but two dictionaries of terminology that is to be learned by followers. Whether the words are completely new to the follower or unique to the cult itself, loaded language essentially rewires the brain to internalize the ideology of the cult.

If you would like to add more definitions to existing words or add new terms, DM us or submit them through the website at ESAAlliance.org/dictionary

Trauma Bonding is a term that is often misused by survivors. Most people think trauma bonding is an unhealthy attachment that is formed by two people “trauma dumping” or building a relationship based on a shared trauma. The actual definition of trauma bonding has to do with a power dynamic in the relationship where the “victim” forms attachment to their abuser due to a cycle of love bombing, gaslighting and abuse.
