We’re watching the shift happen in real time across City of Toledo and BESN X Community is right in the middle of it.

We connected with Brandon Ruiz and the Nemsys team, building pathways for real tech access and infrastructure.

We sat down with Nolan Culver at Ostrich Towne & Amanda Goldsmith with PNC Bank, locking in the space for our 2nd Annual Spring Art & Community Market a platform built for artists, creators, and vendors who have been overlooked for far too long.

And we tapped into the growing tech movement with Toledo Codes, connecting with:
• Ericca Ross (The Loft 419)
• Justin Beaudry (Founder, Toledo Codes)
• Michael Vanderpool
• Dalien Ahiekpor with Amazon Web Services

This is what people don’t understand…

These aren’t separate moments.
This is one ecosystem forming.

Art.
Tech.

Community.

All coming together to build something Toledo hasn’t seen before.

And let’s be clear

The art and market scene needs to change.

For too long, it’s been the same cycle:
Same spaces.
Same gatekeepers.
Same limited access.

We’re building something special in Toledo.

Park Quest 2.0 is leveling up into a 3D VR experience, and the latest environment build is starting to bring the vision to life. From detailed park scenes to interactive spaces, this is more than a game it’s a new way for our community to experience technology, creativity, and storytelling.

Shoutout to Jessy Wang for putting in real work on this build. This is what our Pathway Program is all about giving people the opportunity to learn, create, and contribute to something bigger.

This project is powered by collaboration. Partners, supporters, and community leaders are helping us turn this into something that creates real opportunities right here in Toledo.

Park Quest is not just about playing a game.
It’s about building skills.
It’s about creating pathways.
It’s about showing what’s possible in our city.

We’re continuing to grow and we need the community with us.

Let’s talk about something important this morning. This is for ALL the non signatory contractors… ALL the Storm Brokers who are running these non signatory contractors on Storms ( if you are tied to the IBEW you should be ashamed of yourselves anyway for taking these contractors)

I’m going to lay out the difference in schooling and JATC, here is a run down from a 15 week climbing school to an actual college! ( picture below )

All you contractors who are getting desperate for help ( KIOWA ) ( PLC ) (Linetech) etc … just because you take a hand that went to a 15 week climbing school then worked for you on the ground for 6 months and then you stick them in a bucket it does not make them a LINEMAN …. It makes them a liability!!! A liability to themselves , a liability to the crew , a liability to the utility that they are working on and a liability to you !!!

You all claim to have an in house apprenticeship but you don’t do any hands on training or even care if they do the books, when they do check all the box’s you hold their cert and lie to them about the process !

Do better , this isn’t a ditch crew or a Walmart stocking career… it’s dangerous and requires training!!

IBEW is coming to strip them all and train them proper as the JATC is a 4 year apprenticeship that is hands on training on a daily and classroom instruction!!!

Big Week for BESN X Community and the future of the Old South End.

We had the opportunity to connect with Grace Toth and Michael Clink from the The Toledo Museum of Art to explore how we can bring stronger art, culture, and creative programming into our Toledo STEM Center.

This is exactly the kind of collaboration we need where art, technology, and community come together to create real opportunities.

At the same time, the Toledo City Planning Commission has officially approved the solar project in the Old South End in partnership with Historic South Initiative and Elevated Energy Solutions.

This is a major step forward.

Not just for clean energy but for what’s possible when development, community, and innovation align.

Now the focus is clear:
Make sure our community is connected to these opportunities.

Through our STEM Center, workforce programs, and creative initiatives, BESN X Community is building that bridge every day.

We’re not waiting for change.
We’re building it.
