the prophet Elijah was so powerful and anointed and just had a huge, dramatic victory over the 450 prophets of Baal and other victories. But he got so exhausted that a threat upon his life overwhelmed him with fear and depression. He ended up going into isolation, hiding in a cave, feeling he was done and he should just die. God came to the cave and said, “Elijah, what are you doing here?” He was saying, “I did not make you to be afraid, intimidated, and defeated. You’ve lost the bold, confident, faith-filled you. Go back the way you came. Come out of hiding and go back to who I say you are—powerful, anointed, favored, victorious.”

God keeps coming after us when we go into hiding. He’s asking, “Where is the confident you, the outgoing you, the talented you, the you who dreamed big, the you who was taking bold steps of faith? I am coming to restore your dreams, your passion, your confidence, your value, your vision, creativity, talent, goals, and joy. It’s time to come out of hiding.”
A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You know my needs and meet me in the place of my needs all along my life journey. Thank You that You love me so much that You whisper what I need to know and renew me with inner strength. Help me to be a good listener to all that You say about me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

when the Israelites went into the Promised Land, they failed to drive the Jebusites out of the stronghold of Jerusalem. Around four hundred years later, when David was anointed king over Israel, they taunted him and said his army could never break the stronghold. But rather than try to go over the walls, the Israelites discovered a way into the city through underground water tunnels, defeated the Jebusites, and now it’s called “the City of David.”

There are strongholds that the enemy may have whispered you’ll never defeat—a sickness, an addiction, a debt, a broken relationship. Don’t believe those lies. The stronghold of Jerusalem belonged to David, but there were enemies living in the city that had his name on it. Like David, there’s an anointing of power coming on your life to capture what belongs to you, what has your name on it, for every promise He’s put in your heart. Healing, freedom, abundance, and good relationships belong to you. The opposition may be strong, but God has a way. Get ready. This is your time to capture it.

“Father, thank You that when Christ conquered death on the cross, He broke the power of every negative thing that’s trying to hold me back. Thank You that any stronghold of the enemy will be defeated. I believe that what belongs to me is about to be captured. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

you will go no further than you think you can go. You will be no more valuable than you think you are. You will live no more confident than you think you are. The truth is you are made in the image of Almighty God. He calls you a masterpiece, one of a kind, a prized possession. But if you let the wrong thoughts into your mind—inferiority, not good enough, not qualified—and let it stay, you won’t discover who you really are. When we’ve believed a lie for a long time, it’s called a “stronghold.” It’s a thinking pattern that’s keeping us from our destiny. You have to pull down the stronghold with what God says in His Word. You have to evict the deceptive thoughts. It’s good to ask yourself, “Why do I feel I’m inferior, not up to par, less-than?” Maybe it’s because the enemy told a lie and you gave it permission to stay. The good news is you decide what gets to stay. Why don’t you send out the evictions now?

“Father, thank You that when Christ conquered death on the cross, He broke the chains of every negative power that’s trying to hold me back. Thank You that I have the promises of Your Word to bring down any stronghold of the enemy. I believe that the forces for me are greater than the forces against me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

in Jonah 2, after the prophet Jonah disobeyed God’s call to go preach to the city of Nineveh, he ended up in the belly of a great fish. It was slimy, dark, smelly, depressing, and it was his own fault. He began to pray, and for eight verses all he did was complain to God about how bad his life was. But when he realized that complaining doesn’t get God’s attention, that God works where there’s faith, he switched over to songs of praise and thanksgiving. In the midst of his problems, when it seemed hopeless, God turned it around and gave Jonah another chance.

When you’re stuck in a situation where you could be worried and discouraged, do as Jonah did. You can’t wait for it to change and then you’re going to thank God; you have to thank Him in advance. That’s your faith being released. If you keep worrying through your prayers, begging God to change things, that can keep you from your purpose. Give God praise and thank Him in the midst of the challenge for the great things He’s about to do.

“Father, thank You that when I feel stuck, especially when I’ve brought trouble upon myself, You cover me with mercy and are my salvation. Thank You that I can give You praise and thanks in the midst of problems. I believe You see my faith and are the One who rescues me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

we all love the seasons when everything is going great and there’s no pressure. But those seasons are few and far between. There are very few times when you’re not dealing with some opposition that could have you stressed—people who are not for you, a neighbor who gets on your nerves, a problem that’s not going away. You can have a dozen things going right, but there’s that one thing you could easily worry about. But that one thing is what causes you to keep pressing forward. It’s healthy tension. God knows how to put on just the right amount of pressure so you don’t get complacent and put your faith on autopilot, but you keep stretching, keep growing, so you can reach the fullness of your destiny. The greatness God put in you is released when you’re under pressure. Your potential comes out by going the second mile, by being good to people who are not good to you, by not letting the pressure cause you to shrink back. Instead, you dig down deeper, knowing that God is getting you prepared for something greater.
A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You use pressure and opposition to keep me moving forward in faith. Thank You that You keep stretching and growing me so I can become all that You created me to be. I believe that the greatness You put in me will come out and I will rise up to new levels. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

we hear a lot about fact-checking today. We fact-check what a politician said, fact-check the claims of an ad or product label, fact-check internet rumors that have gone viral. You need to fact-check the thoughts that come into your mind against the truth of God’s Word. Compare thoughts such as “You’re not valuable. You’re not attractive” to what God says: “You are a masterpiece. You are made in the image of God.” Thoughts whisper, “You’ve failed too many times. Nothing good is in your future. Just accept it.” You have to fact-check that. “The path of the righteous gets brighter and brighter. God is taking me from glory to glory. I haven’t seen, heard, or imagined what He has in store.” Dismiss the lies and embrace the truth.

The truth on its own won’t make you free. It’s the truth you know that will make you free and keep you free. When the enemy tries to plant thoughts of doubt, fear, or compromise, defeat them with the truth found in God’s Word. Answer the lies with what God says and speak them in faith.

“Father, thank You that when Jesus conquered death on the cross, He broke the power of every lie and deception that’s trying to hold me back. Thank You that any stronghold of the enemy is brought down by the power of Your truth. I believe that I am unquestionably free. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Jacob’s name means “a deceiver, conniver,” and that’s how he lived. His mother, Rebekah, was also a deceiver, and so was his uncle, Laban. That same manipulative spirit ran all through the family. Finally, Jacob came to the place where he wanted to change who he’d become. In a moment when he was alone, an angel showed up and began to wrestle with him. At one point, the angel asked, “What is your name?” He answered, “I am Jacob,” admitting he was a deceiver. The angel said, “You will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,” which means “prince with God.” In that moment, the spirit of deception was broken off Jacob. In His mercy, God said, “Enough is enough. This generational baggage is finished.” From that day forward, you never read that Jacob deceived anyone.

If you have generational baggage that’s been passed down to you—anger, addictions, low self-esteem, compromise, divorce—today can be your day of freedom. God is sending the deliverance, sending the breakthrough, breaking bondages. Let Him meet you and release you. He’s about to change your name.
A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You have a new name for me and that by Your grace I am being set free from any generational baggage that is hindering me. Thank You that I can take negative labels off my life and proudly wear the name of Redeemed. I believe that You are going to bless me in amazing ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
