I wanted to visit Gambia College, now University of Education Gambia, but it being 4hrs drive away, lack of transportation and with the short visit, we couldn’t pull it off.
Nevertheless, we found a way to transport Jarvis Turner, a friend, former school mate and a colleague to receive some gifts on behalf of the institution.
We were able to donate:
2 sets of soccer uniforms Loganville High School Thanks Dena Dailey Breese
1 set of (baskeball, volleyball and track and field jerseys) compliments of i9sports Thanks Rafe Mauran
2 soccer balls
It’s a one man show as Jarvis is a Lecturer and a Trainer for the future P.E Teachers of The Gambia. Jarvis teaches and lecture Soccer Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Biomechanics, Athlethics, Health Education, Teaching Methodology, Psychology, Sociology, Anatomy.
He does all of this with little to no equipment. When asked how he teaches Table Tennis without a set, he said; he puts classroom tables together, use 2 tins to prop a stick as a net, cut plywood boards for bats and donated table tennis balls.
This is how the future P.E Teaches of our children are learning how to teach the sport in our beloved Gambia College.
We will certainly launch a formal plea in the near future to collect equipment of the above sports and visit Basse.
