Meet The I Am Human Foundation (📍 United States 🇺🇸)

The I Am Human Foundation is a Black trans-led organization supporting the mental health and wellbeing of Black and Brown LGBTQ+ youth across Atlanta and rural Georgia.

In response to COVID-19, the organization launched both its Healing Through Art program and MentorHER program to meet the growing mental health needs of young people during a time of increased isolation and uncertainty.

Through free therapy, counseling, and art therapy, the I Am Human Foundation ensures young people can access care without financial or social barriers. Their Healing Through Art program provides a structured space where young people can process trauma, build coping skills, and express themselves creatively with support from trained staff and licensed professionals.

In a region where affirming mental health services can be difficult to access due to insurance gaps, long wait times, or unsafe environments, the organization partners with schools, shelters, and group homes to bring care directly to young people who need it most.

With support from the Kindness in Community Fund, the I Am Human Foundation expanded weekly therapy sessions, provided art supplies, and increased outreach, helping more than 200 young people access consistent mental health support and a safe space to be heard.

Dr. Tatyana Moaton will be moderating a panel discussion on The Weight of Leadership: Acknowledging the Trauma Trans People of Color Experience in Positions of Authority. Dr. Moaton's panel will begin at 2pm in the Old Council Chambers.

Activist. Executive Director. Humanitarian. Fashion Guru. Alex talks the talk and walks the walk in all that he does. From fatherhood to friendships he is consistently loving and cheering on those around him. He is known by many in the Pageant & Ballroom scene where he steals the show with his fits and charm.

Yet, Alex is also a champion activist for human and trans rights. His passion for the community can’t be denied and so many are grateful for him & his team at the I Am Human Foundation that provides services to LGBTQIA individuals all over the country. “Empowering Lives One Human At A Time.” is their mission and with Alex at the helm we believe they will do just that. 💐❤️

“How can someone that doesn’t look like me or live my experience liberate me? They can't, which is why we need black trans leadership. It’s easier in my opinion to seek help from someone that can relate. We need more leadership in different aspects of the community. I believe leaders are born with leadership qualities, it’s the environment you are groomed in that determines whether or not you choose to use that ability. My mother was my biggest inspiration, she was all about service to the community and a true leader. It was natural for me to follow in her footsteps.”]
