Did you know there are actually three monarch populations connected to the U.S.? 🦋 Here in Oklahoma, we’re most familiar with the eastern monarchs — butterflies that arrive each spring from Mexico, travel through the central U.S., breed in Canada, and return south in the fall.
🧡 Eastern Monarchs – Overwinter in Mexico at the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve and migrate through the central and eastern U.S.
🧡 Western Monarchs – Overwinter along the California coast, including spots like Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove, and breed west of the Rockies.
🧡 Florida Monarchs – A year-round resident population thanks to the warm climate, though many also make short regional migrations.
Check out the map/graphic above to see how these three populations move across North America — different regions, different lifestyles, all part of the incredible monarch story. 🦋
