Community Food Pantry distribution is in three weeks, on October 20 from 5-6:30 pm! Fresh produce, frozen meats, shelf stable food items plus period supplies and soap available. Come see us at 16 West Green Drive in Athens. Parking at the Heritage Community Clinic is limited before 5pm. Pantry clients are encouraged to come at 5pm or later. Thank you for your understanding!

Across Ohio, strengthening the health care workforce starts with creating more opportunities for people to learn, train and build meaningful careers in their communities.

Health Workforce Ohio is a $10 million statewide initiative co-led by Ohio University and The Health Collaborative. The initiative is now accepting grant applications for projects that recruit, train and retain health care professionals in Ohio’s non-urban counties.

Funding can support career exploration for students, apprenticeships and work-based learning, telehealth and digital health training, upskilling for current workers, and efforts to reduce barriers to entering health care careers.

These investments can help communities build a stronger health care workforce and create more pathways into health care careers across Ohio.

This is just one reason why it's important to not leave your yard lights on all night.

It would be so nice if Athens could be part of the DarkSky movement!

Last night about 360 million birds were forecast to fly over the US. Tonight it's about 433 million.

The heaviest flying runs from Indiana and Ohio down through Kentucky and Tennessee into Alabama and Georgia.

Most of them are small songbirds heading south for the winter. They fly at night, and weather radar picks them up after sunset, which is how they get counted.

If you can, turn off your outside lights tonight. Bright lights pull them off course.
