Issue 3 has been defeated, and by nearly 15%! Great job! Thank you to all those who came together and united against this senseless income tax hike.

This is a big win for the workers of Athens City, but despite our victory our city still remains one of the poorest in our state. it is still our responsibility to hold our local elected officials accountable everyday and every election. We need to keep letting city council know wasteful spending and giving away hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars to scammers is unacceptable, among many other things.

Another special thank you to the students whose efforts made this historic defeat of an Athens tax issue possible! See you on Court Street!

Issue three is on the spring ballot, the city is asking for more of your hard earned dollars, as they protect the employee who lost $722,000, and won’t tell us if they are still employed.

EVENT PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Athens Against Issue 3 Presents a Student-Led Demonstration Against Issue 3 on Wednesday, April 23rd at 11am in front of Athens City Hall (8 E Washington St, Athens, OH)

Come join local students and workers in a demonstration against Athens Issue 3, a 15% income tax increase for the city of Athens. Athens city has one of the highest poverty rates in Ohio. Whether you are a student or someone who commutes to Athens for work, one thing everyone can agree on is we can not afford an income tax increase.

Historically students in Athens have almost always voted in favor of tax increases, that's because students like everyone else want to do everything they can to support their community. If issue 3 passes, it will not help our community. It will hurt both students, workers, and businesses. We want to be the class of students that stops the trend of rubber stamping every local tax increase despite the majority of residents being against these increases. Issue 3 passing would only assist the city to continue the reckless spending and incompetence which led to the city losing over $700,000 of our tax dollars to an email scam.

We encourage anyone who lives or works in Athens to unite and join us tomorrow at 11am in front of Athens City Hall at the DO NOT TAX THE POOR RALLY and help peacefully spread the word to our neighbors that ISSUE 3 IS BAD FOR ATHENS.

Vote AGAINST Issue 3 on or before May 6th. Early voting now open at the Athens Board of Elections!
