October 11th the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host an Open House and a Movies by Moonlight presentation at Sandy Creek Park located at 400 Bob Holman Road.

Bike Athens will be on site, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., for a “True Beginner” program helping adults learn to ride a bike. Attendees are welcome to bring their own bikes, but can reach out to BikeAthens at [email protected] to borrow one to ride. There will be an adjusted traffic pattern in the park. The road over the dam will be closed to vehicles, so bicyclists are able to have a vehicle-free experience riding in the area. Fall is officially in the air, which means we can finally enjoy the outdoors without melting into a puddle!

To celebrate, we’re hosting an Open House at Sandy Creek Park and Lake Chapman on Sunday, October 11th, with FREE admission and activities starting at 3:00 PM!

Here is a glimpse of what’s in store:

🎻 Community Hootenanny: Take an easy stroll down our shaded trails to the outdoor amphitheater for a festive, community-led sing-along.

🚲 True Beginners Bike Workshop: Prefer two wheels? Bring your bicycle along and let the friendly folks at BikeAthens guide you through the basics.

🎞️ 7:00 PM – Movies By Moonlight: We’re wrapping up the night with a cozy outdoor screening of Harry and the Hendersons under the stars.

Grab your picnic basket, lace up your sneakers, slather on a little sunscreen, and come soak up the cool autumn air with us!
