Luke 1: 39-41
“39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Saw a meme the other day that struck a chord. It said: "the first person to announce the birth of Christ was an unborn child". The first clue we knew our daughter Ruth was gone was the lack of movement in Johnnie Sue's womb. Not long after these things came to pass, I started to search. I turn to scripture for answers. What I found was a tapestry of stories of people who were struggling with their "New Normal” which wasn't normal to us.
It started with Adam and Eve losing Abel, later Eve gave birth to Seth. Then progressed to other stories like Hannah pleaded to God for a son Samuel (which literally means God Heard me). Then I continued on to David and Bathsheba, losing a son and later comes their son Solomon.
The bible has many more accounts of children being the focal point of the story woven into this story we call "The Word of God".
Zechariah and Elizabeth were waiting patiently (which means they served God in the temple) for the answer to their prayers. And finally, an Angel’s prophecy brought John the Baptist to them. As soon as Mary knocked on their door and was greeted by Elizabeth, her baby (John) leaped inside her and let the women know Jesus was coming.
Just 558 days after our loss, Callie Rae arrived. Then the promise was fulfilled: Jeremiah 29: 11, “For I know the plans I have for you...”!
Prayer:
God of all our days, let us hold on to each day as we anticipate the coming day of Christ born into our lives again! AMEN
