The APF Scholarship Committee was honored to present the Luca Benedetti Memorial Scholarships at Atascadero High School and Templeton High School scholarship nights.

Congratulations to Scarlette Fonseca, headed to Cal Poly SLO, Audryana Mosqueda, who will be attending CSU Long Beach, and Luke Davis, who is off to Boise State University. These three scholars each bring something unique to the table, but they share a commitment to their communities and a drive to make a difference. That is exactly what the Luca Benedetti Memorial Scholarship was created to honor.

APF Tournament tees up big support for Atascadero youth programs

Golfers, sponsors, and volunteers rally behind public safety initiatives and scholarships

ATASCADERO — The 15th Annual Atascadero Police Foundation (APF) Charity Golf Tournament & Silent Auction brought together community members, local businesses, and public safety supporters for a day that was about far more than golf. Held Saturday, April 18, the event marked another successful chapter in a long-running tradition of giving back.

"The tournament went really well. We had 104 golfers, a great response," said APF Board President and retired Atascadero Police Corporal Scott Pipan. "The weather cooperated this year, which was great after dealing with rainy weather last year."

On this Peace Officers Memorial Day in San Luis Obispo, the Atascadero Police Foundation pauses to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our community. This year, 12 California officers are being honored, a sobering reminder of the sacrifice made every day to keep our communities safe.

This week carries a deeply personal weight for all of us on the Central Coast. Five years ago, on May 10, 2021, we lost Detective Luca Benedetti of the San Luis Obispo Police Department. Luca began his law enforcement career right here at the Atascadero Police Department, and his memory lives on in everything we do.

In his honor, the Atascadero Police Foundation established the Luca Benedetti Memorial Scholarship to carry his legacy forward through the next generation of those called to serve.

To Luca, and to every officer whose name is etched in memorial, we will never stop honoring your sacrifice. 💙

We’re still smiling thinking about this past weekend. Three days later, and the gratitude hasn’t worn off.

Our 15th Annual APF Charity Golf Tournament & Silent Auction was something really special. It wasn’t just about golf or bidding; it was about people showing up for each other and for this community.

One of the best moments was getting to introduce our three scholarship winners- Scarlette, Audryana, and Luke. Hearing their stories and seeing their excitement to be future leaders in public service was a powerful reminder of why this all matters.

Because of your support, we’re able to continue funding programs that truly make a difference, like Guardians of Honor, the APD K9 Program, and the Luca Benedetti Scholarship, and dream big as we plan a public safety appreciation event for this fall.

To everyone who played, donated, volunteered, sponsored, or simply showed up, thank you. This community always comes through, and we’re so proud to be part of it.
