A picture is worth 1,000 words... or, in this case, 42 merit badges and two SUP patches. That's what was earned by the 10 Scouts who were at summer camp this year, along with two Firem'n Chits. Five more Scouts not at camp will join these 10 in September for more fun and adventures. Will you be there?

Troop 164 returned yesterday from a great week of summer camp at H.A. Moses Scout Reservation / Western Massachusetts Council. These pictures only scratch the surface of all the awesome activities. If this looks like fun to you, check us out when meetings resume in September!

If you’ve noticed a hazy sky or the smell of smoke outside today, you’re not alone.

Smoke from large wildfires burning in parts of Canada has been carried into southern New England by the wind, creating hazy conditions and a noticeable smoky odor. While there are no local wildfires causing these conditions, the smoke can still affect air quality.

Those most sensitive to smoke including older adults, young children, pregnant individuals, and people with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions should consider limiting prolonged outdoor activity if they begin experiencing symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, shortness of breath, or watery eyes.

If you need to spend time outdoors:
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities if the smoke is bothersome.
• Keep windows closed if the air quality worsens.
• Use air conditioning on the recirculate setting if possible.
• Follow your healthcare provider’s guidance if you have a respiratory condition and keep rescue inhalers readily available.
