Troop 164, Assonet

Troop 164, Assonet We meet at St. Bernard's Church on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30, September through June.

05/12/2026

While today's Scouts might not be familiar with Rod Serling (or station wagons), fire safety reminders are always timely. Whether it's ci******es, ashes from the wood stove, or a campfire, always make certain your fires are out!

The core group at the start of last night's "night hike" in the Freetown State Forest. Learning to navigate at night can be just as important as learning to navigate during the day - and it's pretty fun, too!

Troop 164 spent a few hours on Saturday clearing some new walking trails at Porter Pasture, a 20-acre conservation property on the Assonet River managed by the Freetown Conservation Commission. We are happy to be part of revitalizing of this beloved town park!

Adventure safely!

Following the recent tragedy in Eastham, MA, we want to remind everyone that ice conditions can change quickly and without warning. What looks solid may not be safe.

❄️ Remember:
• Ice thickness is rarely consistent.
• Moving water, tides, and temperature changes weaken ice.
• Snow can insulate and hide thin spots.
• No ice is 100% safe

If someone falls through the ice:
📞 Call 911 immediately.
⚠️ Do not go onto the ice, you could become a victim too.

Please use caution around any frozen waterways and share this reminder with others.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Eastham community.

Make today a little easier for the Freetown Police Department, Freetown Fire Department, and the Highway Department - stay home, stay warm. If you have elderly or disabled neighbors, the next 24 hours is a good time to check in, stay in touch, and help out when you can. If you live near a fire hydrant, and are physically able, help keep it clear of snow. ❄️☃️❄️

🚨 SNOW EMERGENCY & PARKING BAN 🚨

❄️ Effective TODAY at 1:00 PM ❄️

Due to the ongoing snowstorm and in accordance with Town of Freetown bylaws, a Snow Emergency has been declared and a parking ban on ALL public roadways will be in effect:

🕐 Starts: Today (1/25/26) at 1:00 PM
🕘 Ends: Tomorrow (1/26/26) at 9:00 AM

🚫 NO vehicles may be parked on any public street or way during this time.

This parking ban is necessary to:
• Allow snow plows and emergency vehicles to safely clear roadways
• Ensure access for Police, Fire, and EMS
• Maintain public safety throughout the storm

🚗 Vehicles left on public roadways may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

🏠 Residents are encouraged to:
• Park in driveways or other permitted off-street locations
• Limit travel unless necessary
• Check on neighbors who may need assistance

📢 Updates will be provided as conditions change.

“Let’s work together to help keep our Town open and operational. Please be part of the solution to keep our community safe!”
