What in the equine dental health is going on here? Birch is getting his teeth floated by our amazing vet team. While it may look concerning, Birch was sedated and did just fine for his procedure. Floating is a routine and required part of horse health. Floating, in simple terms, is filing down sharp points or uneven teeth surfaces. This ensures the horse can chew properly. Many of our rescue horses arrive at VEWS having no, or little, dental care so it is one of the things we ensure is taken care of! Please consider donating to our horses' dental and overall health care by visiting our website and donating today. By the way, Birch will be available for adoption soon, so stay tuned!

Interested in adopting a horse from VEWS? Here's how it works:

1. Complete and submit an Adoption Application found on our website on the "Adoptions" tab.

2. Our Adoption Director will contact you and review your application with you.

3. Come out and meet the horse(s) you're interested in. Just like the adoption meeting in the pic!

4. Want to proceed with adoption? Come out for your second meeting with the horse(s). We highly encourage you to bring your helmet and ride a rideable horse you're interested in.

5. Your references are checked, as is your farm or boarding farm where the horse will reside.

6. Sign an Adoption Contract and arrange for payment.

7. Transport your new equine family member home.

We do require that your new equine family member have an equine buddy. Barbed wire is a definite no no at the future home of an adopted horse.

Need more details?

Please check our website for more information on the process and on our adoptable horses. Please email us at [email protected] with any questions. Thanks!

✨ Where Are They Now: Grace ✨

If you remember Grace from her adoption several years ago, you might recall she came with a very strong opinion about… well, everything. Sprays? Absolutely not. Flags? Suspicious. Trotting? Only if she felt like it. Forward meant backward, backward meant sideways — she kept everyone guessing.

But within her first year at home, Grace decided that life was much easier when she wasn’t auditioning for “Drama Mare of the Year.” And now? She’s a total superstar.

These days, she has some of the best ground manners around. She strolls through gates like a seasoned pro, pauses politely while they’re closed behind her, and she’ll even do it all from the saddle. She’s the boss mare in her little herd, but she’s a respectful one — confident without the “diva” routine.

Her favorite hobby? Treats. Grace will stretch out her neck and nose for a kiss, then patiently wait for her well‑earned snack. It’s her signature move.

From headstrong to heart-stealing, Grace has become the kind of mare who makes you smile every single day. 💛

✨ Sonny Update! ✨

It’s been three months since Sonny was adopted, and he’s really blossoming in his new home. He’s finding his place in the gelding field and has made plenty of new buddies thanks to slow, thoughtful introductions.

His first farrier visit went without a hitch—a little wiggly at first, but he settled and did great.

Sonny has also adjusted beautifully to his new Kalm and Easy feed with an essential K supplement, plus plenty of forage. His adopter transitioned him gradually, and he’s doing wonderfully.

Best of all, his family says he’s such a sweet boy and they absolutely adore him.

💛 And here he is at his first show, shining in a walk–trot class.

Our sweet mare Lola is doing great with our training partners at Equine Welfare Society! Lola proved herself to be a calm and quiet girl for all the things in-hand during her time at VEWS. Now, she's at EWS for additional training and assessment. Lola earned first place this month in her International Horse Agility Club division. You can follow her progress by checking her out on EWS' youtube channel. Stay tuned as Lola continues her preparation for a forever home. Many thanks to our friends at EWS!

🌟 Adoption Update: Glory at 3 Months! 🌟

We just received the sweetest update from Glory’s adopter, and this girl is thriving.

Glory has been wonderful for the farrier, settled right in with her new herd, and absolutely adores all her friends. Her adopter kept her on the senior feed she was on here at VEWS, and everything has continued to go beautifully.

Her adopter said, “She’s truly been the sweetest, best girl ever.” Hearing how loved and cherished she is means the world.

Happy 3‑month anniversary, Glory — keep shining, sweet girl.
