91 and cloudy is SO much better than 102 and sunny. But, still a bit warm for humans and horses who are living outside. Shade and water rule.

Many thanks to all of our volunteers who have come out to hose our horses down. Lex in particular is very appreciative. He has anhidrosis and does not sweat very well, so we are hosing him every hour or so in the heat.  he also has fans and shade and is on meds and supplements to help with the sweating, but he heats up pretty quickly.

It's HOT here in TN. Remember to bring your pets inside, and be sure livestock have plenty of water and shade.

Our horses love these sessions and give so much of themselves to our participants. We are always amazed at what insights the people come away with just from spending time with our wonderful herd.

Like our homeless, Spike always finds innovative ways to stay cool. Today, it is bamboo to the rescue. Also like our homeless, Spike always has a moment to say hi. Remember, today especially, a bottle of water and a kind word can mean everything.

Dear friends: we have a challenge. The wonderful farmer who has donated hay to us for the past six years was affected by the drought and cannot donate this year. This means to get through the winter we need an extra $7,000 to buy hay for our amazing therapy horses. Here's how you can help:
1) donate $10 or $20 or $100 or more, whatever you can, to make sure our horses stay warm and fed.
2) if you are a farmer in Middle Tennessee who has horse-quality hay, either square or round bales, or if you know of such a farmer, consider donating some hay. Remember that horse hay cannot have been rained on and has to have been stored inside. We can pick up, if needed.
3) share this post, and this information, with everyone you know
We are starting early on this, since hay crops often get sold in summer or fall.

One of the things our volunteers say they love about being here is the peacefulness of our property. Volunteers are welcome to come hike, sit by the creek, and just enjoy nature. We have an abundance of deer, wild turkeys, beaver, groundhogs, geese, blue herons and other wildlife. Some have even seen an armadillo or two! Come join us.
