After Hurricane Helene tore through Lisa property, she couldn’t even return home for five months. Roads were impassable, downed trees blocked access, and the culvert and bridge were completely washed away. A massive landslide devastated her land—taking her trailer, well, septic system, mower, and more.
For the past year and a half, Lisa has worked tirelessly to rebuild—repairing her roof, floors, and property piece by piece. But as she’ll tell you, the road to recovery is still long.
When we met Lisa, she was facing ongoing electrical issues from flooding, made even more challenging by her remote location and limited access to subcontractors. Thanks to John C. Hall Electric—and supporters like you—lights are now back on in her bedroom, kitchen, and porch.
Your donations also helped provide gravel to stabilize her driveway, bringing her one step closer to safety and stability.
There is still so much work to be done—for Lisa and so many others like her. If you’d like to help families rebuild and regain a sense of normalcy, consider donating today. 100% of your contribution goes directly to survivors still recovering.

ReGroup WNC recently met with Brad and Alexandra, who live in Canton with their two young boys. Their story is one we hear far too often across Western North Carolina.
Their home and driveway were badly damaged during Hurricane Helene, and while they’re working with other resources to make the home safe and livable, their most urgent need right now is reliable transportation. Their current car has broken down repeatedly, with repair estimates in the thousands, making it unreliable for getting the kids around and to doctor appointments.
We appreciate the team at Cale Rogers Auto Sales for helping ReGroup WNC identify safe, reliable vehicles for families, and we’re grateful to the donors and partners who make this work possible!

When floodwaters from Hurricane Helene washed out the road to Aaron’s home, the destruction was overwhelming. His truck’s suspension and transmission were destroyed, leaving him without transportation. At the same time, his home suffered catastrophic damage—roof failure, water-soaked ceilings and walls, collapsed decking, shifting foundation, electrical damage, black mold, a flooded septic system, and nearly every appliance ruined. What started as a storm turned into a long, uphill battle for stability and safety.
Aaron was offered help by many organizations, but the support never followed through. Rebuilding felt impossible without reliable transportation and mobility. Still, Aaron persisted.
Today, thanks to the gift of a dependable truck, Aaron has a turning point. He can now access paid work, haul debris, and take real steps toward recovery. What once felt like standing still is finally moving forward.
🗣️ “Seriously thank you, I’m forever grateful. I don’t think I’ve ever had a vehicle this new or nice in my life. We’ve already started hauling debris and can see the front yard again! You have been such a huge blessing. Although we still have a bit to go, this has impacted us so much. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
This is why we do what we do. Recovery doesn’t happen all at once—it starts with one reliable step forward. 🚚✨

Big news for ReGroup WNC!
ReGroup WNC is honored to receive a $500,000 grant from NC Emergency Management's Volunteer Organization program, helping us continue recovery efforts that began when Hurricane Helene hit in September 2024.
This support ensures we can keep showing up for families and communities who are still on the long road to recovery. We’re deeply thankful for the trust and partnership that makes this work possible.

The comment we hear most from Hurricane Helene survivors is that since the storm it has been “one thing after another.” As if the storm wasn’t enough, the events of the aftermath compound and it can seem impossible to come up from the rubble!

Sherri had a tree fall on her house during the storm. She was the primary caretaker of her husband, who was on oxygen with a traumatic brain injury. When power was out for weeks, their family was scrambling to find him power to keep him breathing while also trying to address the home damage. Sherri suffered cognitive decline from the stress. A friend removed the tree and patched the roof as best he could. With their focus on health one day at a time, the roof leaked and damaged the ceiling, furniture, and integrity of the home. Sherri’s husband passed away
months later and the grief, on top of a home in disrepair, made getting by unbearable.

Your donations helped us join forces with Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders to have her roof properly repaired and insulated, as well as her ceiling repaired and freshly painted. An angel of a volunteer cleaned her kitchen from top to bottom and we facilitated a dump run to help her home get a fresh start. We are continuing to help Sherri recover until her home is as good as new and she is in safe and clean conditions, and will connect her to resources for aging with assistance, so she is more equipped to carry on.
Thank you for your support!

When Hurricane Helene hit, Dana lost everything — including the only reliable car she’d ever owned. Since then, her family has been doing everything they can to stay afloat.
After months of displacement and job loss due to the post‑storm downturn, Dana is actively looking for work. But without safe transportation, steady employment feels out of reach. The only vehicle available is a rusting pickup truck that doesn’t feel safe to drive.
Dana has 10 years of experience in food service and is working to rebuild — reinstating Medicaid, finishing her GED, and supporting her two daughters as they navigate the anxiety and trauma left by the storm.
This is what hurricane recovery really looks like months later. It’s not just debris removal — it’s rebuilding transportation, income, mental health, and hope.
A heartfelt thank you to Cale Rogers Automotive for partnering with ReGroup WNC to help storm‑affected families access reliable vehicles at a discount. Partnerships like this are helping families take real steps forward.

💧 Project Update in Beacon Village 💧
After Hurricane Helene, a natural spring in the backyard of one Beacon Village neighbor created major issues for several families on Edwards Avenue—standing water, constant mud, and a steady stream of water running down the street. As a temporary fix, the water was pumped to the road and into a storm drain, but that solution brought new problems. When the drain clogged, water had nowhere to go and began pooling in the middle of the road, creating safety concerns and icy conditions in the winter.
Last year, ReGroup WNC partnered with Chonzie Inc. to repair the storm drain. Now, we’ve taken the final step by addressing the spring itself. The water is being routed underground and connected directly to the storm drain—eliminating the standing water, mud, and constant flow down the street.
Chonzie Inc. absolutely knocked it out of the park on this permanent fix! 🙌
Thanks to our generous donors, this is one less problem the families on Edwards Avenue in Beacon Village have to worry about!

Lidenia was renting a home in West Asheville when a tree fell during the storm and completely demolished the house. Lidenia and her three children were unable to salvage any of their belongings, the family was left with nothing.
As if the devastation from the hurricane wasn’t enough, more hardships followed. One of Lidenia’s children required emergency appendix surgery in November. Then in December, while driving to work early one morning, Lidenia was involved in a car accident. Lidenia describes the past months as “one thing after another,” with overwhelming bills piling up at every turn.
Lidenia’s long-term need was simple but heavy—relief from the crushing debt caused by the hurricane and the events that followed.
was honored to step in and help. We were able to provide beds for the family and assist with mounting expenses, including a medical bill, ambulance bill, water bill, couch payments, and car payments—helping Lidenia begin to regain stability during an incredibly difficult season.
This is what disaster recovery looks like: meeting families where they are and helping them move forward, one burden lifted at a time.
