Today, December 6th, we honor the life, love, and enduring legacy of Reffat Alareer….

A brilliant Palestinian poet, teacher, and storyteller whose words continue to resonate with the hope and heartbreak of Palestine. He was more than a poet- he was a voice for the oppressed, a chronicler of resilience and truth in the face of unspeakable violence.

His work stands as a testament to the power of art in the fight for liberation—not only for Palestine but for all oppressed peoples worldwide.

Today, a year since he was martyred, we share his story, as he asked….

“When they kill me, tell my story. Tell them I lived with a love so vast it could have saved the world, had the world been willing to listen.”

“Here we are,
resilient as the olive trees
rooted in soil soaked
with our ancestors’ prayers.
We are not numbers;
we are stories,
legacies that no bullet,
no missile, no siege
can ever silence.”

Reffat’s words reminded us that the act of remembering is revolutionary. His words have comforted the grieving, emboldened the defiant, and led a path for all who yearn for justice.

We give our deepest love and solidarity to Reffat’s family, to everyone who knew and loved him, and to those who found hope and light in his words. His legacy will never fade- it lives in every heart that beats for liberation.

May his memory inspire us to continue the fight for freedom—for Palestine and for all.

We are grateful to announce that our art show, Sumud in the Salon, raised $1,450!

Everyone’s contributions have fueled this local effort, and we’re so humbled to have been able to coordinate and make it happen on top of the community art show.
