Behind every school meal is a community of professionals who go beyond their job description, donate their time, and show up for this profession because they believe the work matters.

Starting April 20, we’re spending National Volunteer Week celebrating and spotlighting the people who make school nutrition stronger for all of us.

Today, SNA is hosting House and Senate Congressional briefings on Capitol Hill. Congressional staff is hearing directly from USDA and school nutrition leaders about the real costs and operational challenges behind the school meals 30 million students depend on every day.

👉🏻 Here’s the reality: There’s a growing gap between federal reimbursement and what it actually costs to prepare nutritious, compliant meals. And that gap has real consequences—for students, schools, and the dedicated professionals making it all happen.

With a USDA proposed rule on school meal nutrition standards on the horizon, SNA will be mobilizing advocates to weigh in during the public comment period.

Together, we can ensure school meals continue to nourish students and support their success. 💛

This is advocacy in action! Thank you to Senator Thune for taking the time to meet with SNA Past President Gay Anderson, Food Service Director in Sioux Falls, and SNA CEO Patti Montague.
 
Gay shared the incredible progress her district has made in serving healthy, nutritious meals to students, while also highlighting the real challenges school nutrition professionals are facing, including concerns around upcoming rules.
 
These conversations matter. When we bring real stories from the cafeteria to the table, we help ensure the future of school meals continues to support every student. 💛
