That’s why school nutrition is so much more than serving lunch.

When school lets out, most people think about vacation. Beach trips. A slower pace.

School nutrition professionals think about the kids who just lost their most reliable meal of the day.

So they show up anyway. All summer long.

Through summer meal programs that make sure no child goes hungry just because school is out.

That is school nutrition. 💜

Most people assume a conference just packs up and leaves when it’s over. ANC26 didn’t. Because at SNA, we want to leave a positive impact!

Every product our industry partners brought this year, the food, the samples, all of it, got donated at the end of the week. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (Second Harvest Food Bank) made sure it reached the local community.

42,695 pounds.

That’s not leftover trade show inventory. That’s meals reaching families in Charlotte who needed them, because a room full of people who show up for kids every single day didn’t stop showing up the moment the conference doors closed.

To every industry partner and GES who made this possible, thank you. And Charlotte, thank you for having us. We hope you felt it.

Drop a 💜 if you love seeing our community show up like this!

Every school day, someone is making decisions that affect what your child eats, and most families never hear their story.

Ashley Powell started in dietetics, then moved into education. Eventually she became director of child nutrition for Auburn City Schools. This year, she's stepping in as president of the School Nutrition Association, the organization representing the professionals feeding kids in schools across the country.

Her path wasn't a straight line, and neither is the path most people in this profession take to get here. What stays constant is the reason they stay: your kid's success and their work are tied together.

We're telling her full story in the new July/August issue of School Nutrition magazine. Read it here: https://schoolnutrition.org/news-publications/sn-magazine/july-august-2026/

We’re still thinking about ANC, and we hope you are too 🎉

Last week, we asked some of our members to show us what pure excitement for ANC looks like: one single clap, big smiles, no explanation needed.

And that’s exactly what this whole community brings to the table every single day.

Shoutout to the members who agreed to be in our video! Thank you for showing us (and everyone else) what genuine excitement for this work looks like.

Comment 👏 if ANC26 is still living in your head too.

The math ain’t mathing. ✍🏻

Every school meal served in America has to meet federal requirements. Which includes protein, whole grain, fruit, vegetables, and milk. All of it. Every time. For less than $5 per meal.

School nutrition professionals are not just feeding hundreds of kids. They are doing something genuinely remarkable every single day.

They deserve to have that recognized, and they deserve the investment that matches the mission.

To everyone who showed up in Charlotte this week: thank you. 🤗

This is why we show up

You brought the energy into every session, every hallway conversation, every moment between the schedule. That’s not something we could have planned or staged. That’s just what happens when a few thousand people who care this much about feeding kids end up in the same building.

We left ANC26 more energized than we arrived, and that’s because of you.

See you at the next one.

A new chapter for SNA leadership starts today. And she already knows what it means to show up.

Ashley Powell, PhD, RD, FAND, SNS, is the Child Nutrition Director for Auburn City Schools in Alabama, where her 60-member team serves nearly 9,500 students across 14 sites, with two new schools under construction.

Last year alone, her team served approximately 300,000 breakfasts and 840,000 lunches. Not a program on paper. A program that shows up every single day. Under the Alabama School Breakfast Grant, her program began offering free school breakfasts to all students starting in May 2026.

That is the leader stepping into this role.

SNA CEO Patti Montague put it directly: “I look forward to leading SNA this year with Ashley as we focus on implementing our refreshed Strategic Framework and advocating for school nutrition programs. She is a dynamic speaker and leader who will be very effective engaging with everyone from our members of Congress and the Administration.”

Ashley, our members and all of us are behind you.

Help us give President Powell the welcome she deserves 💜
