Thank you to GBH for highlighting the impact of the federal government’s actions and rhetoric on our community.

Our clients are trying their best to keep afloat during these difficult times, and we do everything we can to help.

They shouldn’t have to defend their reality, and publicize their pain, for the government that invited them to safety to believe them.

They were promised safety, security, and care. Now this is their reality.

We’ve received a grant to work with researchers at Boston College to better understand the mental health needs of our community. As we survey our community, we’re hopeful to be able to develop better resources and tools for our clients.

We’re doing everything we can to make sure the mental and physical health of our clients is taken care of during times of stress and uncertainty.

On October 27th Olga’s List and the Ukrainian American Educational Center will be celebrating Ukrainian language and culture by hosting a national unity dictation event in Jamaica Plain.

Ukrainians all over the world will gather, write down a dictated text in Ukrainian, and celebrate their culture, language, and identity together.

Earlier this fall we hosted a wonderful community potluck at the Back Bay Fens, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of Ukrainian Federal Credit Union and FoodLinkMA

Like most other Olga’s List events, it was very important to us that the potluck would not only be a space for community but also useful conversation and support.

The fight doesn’t stop, even when we don’t know where we’re going to get our funding from.

Olga’s List is facilitating a community forum with the Massachusetts Office of Refugees and Immigrants where our clients are going to be able to talk about the trials that they are facing and the help that they need to survive.

THE BIRDS ARE BACK

Birds are made by our resident artist Sasha, and then painted by our refugees and community members. Each bird tells a story that’s personal to the artist.

Many of our clients have been stripped of their health insurance.

They now don’t have access to a primary care physician or life-saving medications. On top of that they no longer have access to SNAP benefits and their work permit renewals have stalled.

This is the reality our Ukrainian refugees are facing, right here in Massachusetts.

Our clients have lost access to proper healthcare and SNAP benefits. Many are still waiting for their work permit re-authorizations with no way to earn money. Our federal funding has been cut and we are fighting to keep the lights on.

On the hard days we remind ourselves who we’re doing it for. The Ukrainian refugees that have nowhere else to turn. The mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers escaping war.

People that just want to feel a sense of safety and belonging.

Things are changing for Olga’s List.

We are losing a big part of what we have built because of funding cuts.

But we will keep fighting for our clients. We have served 1000 Ukrainian refugees across Massachusetts. and we will do everything in our power to continue to do so.

Our clients are losing access to healthcare.

This is after stalled work permit renewals and loss of SNAP benefits, launching them into despair and starvation.

Olga’s List is the only organization that focuses on assisting Ukrainian refugees in Massachusetts, and today we lose most of our funding.

We’re grateful that The Boston Globe is highlighting the dire needs of our clients and other refugees in the area.

We will keep fighting for our clients for as long as we are able.
