The energy at the Serewek Community Forum in Transmara South was electric! Elders, parents, teachers, and youth came together under one banner: To protect the health, rights, and education of our children.

For too long, practices like Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), early child marriage, and teenage pregnancy have robbed young girls in our region of their potential. But, Serewek spoke with one voice:

❌ NO to FGM.
❌ NO to forcing young girls into early marriages.
❌ NO to ignoring the silent crisis of teen pregnancy.
✅ YES to keeping every child in school and under parental protection!

Serewek is rising. Serewek is speaking. And Serewek is standing up for a future where every child is protected, supported, educated, and free to dream.

What happens when more than 1500 girls and boys come together to learn, connect, and grow? You get a generation that is more confident, more informed, and better prepared for life. During the August holiday training in Serewek, Transmara South, and Ndamama, Transmara East, young people came together to learn skills that go far beyond the classroom. From self-defence and personal hygiene to self-esteem, communication, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), the sessions created a safe space for young people to ask questions, learn, speak up, and build confidence

Our Kakenya Health and Wellness Center is taking care beyond the clinic walls and directly into the communities that need it most. At our latest mobile pop-up in Nentekeny village, Transmara West, our dedicated medical team served 131 patients, bringing essential, youth-friendly healthcare closer to home. Every consultation matters. Every patient matters. And every community deserves access to quality healthcare.

When girls are denied education, far more than learning is lost. Five years after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, an estimated 2.4 million girls remain excluded from secondary education. UNESCO warns that the consequences extend far beyond the classroom, increasing the risk of early marriage, deepening poverty, harming girls’ health, and weakening the country’s future workforce.

The situation in Afghanistan is distinct, but it underscores a global truth: education is connected to nearly every part of a girl’s future.

That is why Kakenya’s Dream works across education, health, leadership, economic empowerment, and community engagement. Girls need access to school, along with the safety, healthcare, support, and opportunities that allow them to remain there and determine their own futures.

When we invest in the whole girl and the community around her, the benefits reach families, institutions, economies, and generations to come.

Every new beginning is built on preparation, and this summer, our graduates were prepared by building the skills they need to thrive. Through digital literacy training, they strengthened their readiness for life beyond secondary school. Now, they are taking the next step in their journey as they head to colleges and universities across Kenya. They do so as confident, empowered young women equipped to succeed academically, create opportunities, and become agents of change in their communities. The strongest communities are built on deep roots. At Meguara Comprehensive School in Transmara West, we planted 1,700 seedlings through a tree-growing activity that brought together learners, community members, the Ministry of Education, local administration, and other partners committed to environmental conservation.

From fruit trees that can support household nutrition to indigenous trees that help preserve local ecosystems, every seedling represented a step toward a greener and more resilient future.

The activity also created an opportunity for community learning. Through an engaging session led by Kilgoris Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Forester Mr. Ignatius Olemunke, participants reflected on the importance of environmental stewardship and the role each person plays in protecting natural resources.

Today's trees will become tomorrow's forests.

Kerongorori in Kenyenya Sub-county became a platform for meaningful dialogue as community members came together to discuss some of the issues that continue to threaten the well-being and future of girls: early child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and female ge***al mutilation (FGM).

The forum created an opportunity for participants to share experiences, challenge harmful practices, and explore practical solutions that can protect girls and strengthen families.

Ending these challenges requires a collective effort. Parents, guardians, elders, religious leaders, and young people all have an important role to play in ensuring that every girl grows up in a safe and supportive environment.

Great organizations are not built by strategies alone. They are built by people who believe in the work, take ownership of their responsibilities, and show up for one another. Our team recently came together for a culture transformation retreat under the theme: “One Team, Greater Impact.” It was an opportunity to pause, reflect, challenge ourselves, and ask an important question: What kind of organizational culture do we want to create and what role does each of us play in building it?

Through honest conversations, team-building activities, and shared reflections, staff explored how professionalism can strengthen our work, how accountability can build trust, and how collaboration can help us achieve more together. Transformation does not begin in the office; it begins with us.
