Always marinate food in the refrigerator—never on the counter or outdoors. Don’t reuse marinade from raw meat or poultry on cooked food. If you want to use it as a sauce, boil it first or set aside a portion of unused marinade.

Year after year, our center sees most of our rattlesnake bite patients were bitten at home while doing typical daily activities.

In 2025, 66.30% of rattlesnake bites happened at a place of residence. Workplaces were the site of 4.42% of bites in 2025. This typically includes work such as construction or landscaping during which an encounter with a rattlesnake can be likely.

Being observant of your surroundings is essential to preventing a bite. If you encounter a rattlesnake on your property, you may contact the fire department to have the snake relocated for free. Local removal services can also relocate rattlesnakes but fees apply.
