🎙️ First Aid of the Soul on GBH's Public Radio! 🇺🇦

First Aid of the Soul's Founder & Executive Director, Nathalie Timtchenko, joined Braude and Eagan on GBH's Boston Public Radio, just ahead of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, to discuss the ongoing human impact of the war in Ukraine.

The conversation explored the growing need for mental health and psychosocial support, the realities facing Ukrainian families and helping professionals, and how First Aid of the Soul is working to strengthen communities and build sustainable systems of care.

Ukraine's recovery is about more than rebuilding infrastructure. It is about supporting people, protecting human dignity, and investing in the long-term well-being of communities.

A heartfelt thank you to Jim, Margery, and the entire GBH team for making space for these important conversations and continuing to keep Ukraine's people and stories in focus. 💙💛

🌿 World Mental Health Day | Всесвітній день ментального здоров’я 💙💛

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, we are reflecting on the power of connection, collaboration, and community in strengthening mental health and wellbeing across Ukraine.

Recently, First Aid of the Soul (FAS) had the privilege of hosting a roundtable discussion at the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv, bringing together inspiring colleagues and professionals working across mental health, healthcare, education, social services, arts, culture, and community development.

Together, we explored the evolving needs of communities across Ukraine, the challenges facing professionals in different sectors, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration and build more sustainable systems of care.
Beyond the rich discussions, it was a beautiful reunion of colleagues, friends, and partners—many of whom have dedicated themselves tirelessly to supporting others throughout the war.

This is what we hope to see more of: spaces where disciplines intersect, experiences are shared, relationships are strengthened, and new possibilities for collective care emerge.

On this World Mental Health Day, we are reminded that mental health is not the responsibility of any one profession or sector. It is something we nurture together, through connection, creativity, compassion, and collective action.

We are deeply honored to know and work alongside so many extraordinary professionals across Ukraine. Thank you for the work you do, the care you bring, and the communities you continue to strengthen. 💙💛

First Aid of the Soul featured in The Boston Globe 💙💛

We are incredibly grateful to The Boston Globe and Chloe Craft for this special feature following our Voices for Ukraine: Symposium & Concert on September 18.

The evening brought together around 300 people in Cambridge for conversations and creative expression centered on Ukraine—human rights, mental health, culture, art, music, resilience, and the long work of recovery.

It means so much to see the stories, art, and voices behind this gathering continue to reach new audiences. Ukraine is so much more than the war being fought against it, and creating space for Ukrainian voices, culture, and lived experience to be seen and heard remains at the heart of this work.

Thank you again to every speaker, artist, performer, partner, sponsor, volunteer, and guest who made this possible—and to The Boston Globe for helping carry these stories forward.

🇺🇦 More to come.

As the war in Ukraine continues, the need for sustained mental health and psychosocial support is only growing.

We are grateful to GBH [The World] and Marco Werman for speaking with First Aid of the Soul Founder & Executive Director Nathalie Robelot Timtchenko about what our teams and communities are witnessing across Ukraine—and why we must think beyond short-term crisis response.

Resilience is not an unlimited resource. Supporting Ukraine also means investing in the people, professionals, communities, and systems that will sustain recovery for years to come.

Thank you for continuing to keep Ukraine—and the human impact of this war—in the conversation.

🎶 The Music, Movement & Spirit of Voices for Ukraine 🇺🇦
Some of the most meaningful moments of Voices for Ukraine: Symposium & Concert came when words gave way to music, movement, and shared creative expression.

Our deepest gratitude to the extraordinary musicians and performers who brought such beauty, passion, and love for Ukraine to the evening: Vadim Neselovskyi, Olga Lisovska, Solon Gordon, Taisa Kulyk, Alexander Vavilov, Mitchell Kossak, Greta Bro, Nick Suchecki, Nathalie Timtchenko, and MIT Zirka - Ukrainian Folk Dance. And a very special thank you to Phillip Speiser, Ph.D, Mitchell Kossak, and Lisa M. Wong for helping guide and hold our concert program with such care, warmth, and intention—creating space for so many meaningful moments of music, storytelling, reflection, and connection.

From the Ukrainian national anthem and the sound of the bandura, to classical music, jazz, original compositions, Ukrainian dance, and our collective closing song, the evening reminded us that culture is not simply something we preserve. It is something we live, share, and carry forward.

Thank you to every performer who gave so generously of themselves and shared a voice for Ukraine. 💙💛

“I am Ukrainian by choice.”

One of the moments we are still carrying with us from Voices for Ukraine came from Mayor Carl Sheline, reflecting on his connection and commitment to Ukraine: “That is why I am Ukrainian by choice, and so proud to be with you all.”
— Carl Sheline, Mayor of Lewiston, Maine

His words captured something we felt throughout the evening: solidarity with Ukraine is a choice we continue to make—not only in moments of crisis, but through sustained presence, relationship, and action.

Our deepest thanks, once again, to everyone who joined us—our speakers, performers, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and every person who filled the room and made Voices for Ukraine so meaningful.

💙💛 More voices, photographs, and reflections from this extraordinary evening to come.
