Luz Project Luz Project is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization focused on spreading, sharing & shining the Luz to poverty stricken areas of Alagoas, Brazil.

Luz [n. 'lus]- (portuguese) light

Project [n. proj-ekt]- 1. a specific task; a large or major undertaking, especially one involving considerable personnel and equipment.
2. something that is contemplated, devised, or planned; plan; scheme. In the Bible, Jesus calls his followers to spread The Gospel. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

Our organization is focused on obeying this calling. We strive to serve in spreading, sharing, and shining the light/"luz" of Jesus Christ in Alagoas, Brazil. This is our "project."

“This is what God the LORD says-he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: "I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”
Isaiah 42:5-7

During the first week of our mission trip, our Sports Ministry Team returned to the Dandara Favela. Since 2013, we’ve returned to this poverty stricken community several times, while God has continued to open doors to share the Gospel and develop relationships with many people.

This community is actually what sparked the creation of our first full year ministry, “Food For Favelas”. What began with a desire to meet urgent needs of providing food, clothing, and hygiene supplies has become a long-term relationship. We’re grateful for every opportunity to return, serve, connect, and be part of what God is doing in Dandara.

Please keep the families of Dandara and in your prayers. We’re trusting God for what He will continue to do in this community. 🇧🇷

One of the blessings of this year’s Luz Project mission trip was the opportunity to come alongside the local church in Coruripe and serve the community together.

It was a joy to worship, fellowship, and encourage one another as we witnessed God’s work through His people.

Together, we distributed food baskets, clothing, toys, and hygiene kits to families in the community. Every gift was a reminder that the love of Christ is shown not only through what we say, but through how we serve.

Thank you to everyone who prayed, gave, and served. Your generosity made it possible to bless many families, and we give all the glory to God. 💚💛💙

We’re grateful to share an update from our Construction Ministry during this year’s Luz Project mission trip.

During our first week, we had the privilege of serving in Forene, where construction on the church was finally able to continue after receiving long-awaited government approval. It was a powerful reminder that God’s timing is always perfect.

In our second week, we began construction on a new church in Coruripe, a coastal city in southern Alagoas. Seeing God continue to open doors in both communities reminded us of His faithfulness and the power of prayer.

Every brick laid is more than part of a building it represents a place where the Gospel will be preached, believers will gather, and lives will be transformed for years to come.

Thank you for praying, giving, and partnering with us. Your support makes this ministry possible.

To Him alone be all the glory. 🇧🇷✨

More scenes from the Luz Project Sports Ministry! We thought we were coming to teach basketball.
Instead, we were taught to trust God’s plan over our own.

These moments remind us: it’s not about the sport — it’s about the Savior and using whatever the circumstances are to spread His LUZ.

The basketball ministry didn’t go as we planned — but the goal was never just basketball. 🏀
It was always about using a sport to have opportunities to share the gospel.

Just before camp started, the school director introduced us to a group of students she hoped would join.

We were excited. Then we walked into the gym… and there were no basketball goals. We could’ve switched locations — but didn’t want to miss the opportunity God was giving us.

Thankfully, we had packed extra equipment: a kickball, a wiffle ball bat, and a football. So we adapted.

Week 1 was spent at that school.

Week 2 continued at a soccer field near the Dandara Favela.

We even ended one day with a College GameDay-style field goal kicking contest.

But every day, the mission stayed the same: to point hearts to Jesus.

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” — Proverbs 16:9

“If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry… then your light will rise in the darkness.”
Isaiah 58:10

In Isaiah 58, God calls His people to more than religious activity — to live out His heart by loving the poor and the hurting.

This isn’t about doing good to check a box. It’s a response to grace. Jesus gave everything for us and that changes how we live and love.

We’re not the source of hope — we simply want to reflect the One who is.

These aren’t just pictures.
They’re glimpses of the gospel at work in the Dandara Favela, where His light is still breaking through.

FOOD FOR FAVELAS • In our final week of our mission trip, we returned to the Dandara Favela — a place where Luz Project’s first year-round ministry began back in 2013.What started with a simple desire to meet urgent needs has become a quarterly outreach that brings more than food. It brings the hope of the gospel.Through food baskets, hygiene kits, and community connection, Food for Favelas opens the door to share the Bread of Life — Jesus Christ — with those the world often forgets. We don’t go to be seen.We go so that Christ’s light is seen in the darkest places.Thank you for your prayers and support that keep this ministry going all year long.

For three beautiful days, a part of our Luz Project team led special Bible-based Science and Arts integration classes at a tutoring center in São Jorge, where our partner, Marta Chaves, faithfully serves children from the local community.

The goal? To provide rich and engaging learning experiences that clearly present God’s Word—through every experiment and moment together.

Guided by Colossians 2:2-3, our prayer was that each child and teacher would be encouraged in heart and united in love, growing in the full understanding of God’s mystery - Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

EBENEZER Children’s Ministry • Since the construction of the church in São Jorge in 2016, Luz Project has supported a local ministry for children from nearby underserved communities. What started as Sunday afternoon gatherings in a local school has grown into a four-day-a-week program hosted at the church, offering tutoring, reading instruction, and most importantly—sharing the love of Christ.

Luz Project helps provide meals and teaching supplies, ensuring that each child not only learns, but feels loved and valued.
