Happy National Cat Day from our IWS Mountain Lion Team! This clip is of one of our male mountain lions taking a nice snooze in the cooler months. Mountain lions can sleep up to 17 hours a day, typically finding safe spots with cover and seclusion to rest in safety.🦁

As some of you may know, Cruz (A-49) is a fan favorite who hatched at the Pelican Harbor nest on Santa Cruz Island in 2006. She made history as the first known chick to naturally hatch on the Channel Islands since the 1950s, and she and Andor (A-14) are the current resident pair at Fraser Point bald eagle nest on Santa Cruz Island. They successfully hatched 3 of their own eaglets this past spring. Here’s hoping Spring 2027 welcomes more sweet eaglets to Fraser Point nest!🪺🦅

A big thank you to all of our supporters for making our 2026 Fall Fundraiser a success! Check out some of these beautiful (and informative!) photos from one of our existing trail cameras! 📸
These photos are from the Scorpion Harbor territory on Santa Cruz Island. This territory was first established in 2023. There has not yet been a successful breeding attempt recorded in this territory. The current female is 53/A “FAY”. She was hatched in 2021 at Los Pinos nest on Santa Cruz Island. The current male 46/D “Jan” hatched in 2023 at Bald Canyon nest on San Clemente Island and was too young to breed during the 2026 season, but it is possible we will see a breeding attempt in 2027.🪺🦅🦅

If anyone has been finding our eagle biologist hard to reach, we apologize! The fall field season on the islands is wrapping up and she’ll be back behind a desk soon 🤓🖥️

Let’s finish out the fall fundraiser strong! From now until 10/15, we’re raising $10K in 10 days to benefit the Eagle Project. Link to learn more and donate in bio.

Tag along for a day of fieldwork on the gorgeous north coast of Santa Cruz Island! 🏝️

Our team is hard at work climbing trees and servicing trail cameras, this time with a little help from our friends Island Packers ⚓️

All bald eagle nest access is done by trained professionals under state and federal permits. Don’t try this at home!
