Every mission has a beginning. Ours started with Brother Ray, a calling, and a loyal dog named Snoop…
Three years ago, Br. Ray Stadmayer, a Capuchin friar, came from Detroit to become pastor at St. Joseph Catholic Parish in downtown Appleton. Br. Ray and his dog Snoop would go on daily walks through Jones Park and the surrounding neighborhoods.
During these walks, he encountered neighbors experiencing homelessness. But unlike so many who might pass by, Br. Ray stopped. He introduced himself, listened to their stories and he connected with them.
As spring turned to summer, and summer to fall, Br. Ray began asking questions. What happens when winter comes? Do they go somewhere warm? Do they have shelter?
The answer was no.
So Br. Ray turned to his parish for help, challenging them to step outside their comfort zones—to meet people, hear their stories, and walk alongside them.
And they did.
The parish stepped up. More than 100 volunteers from across the Fox Cities joined in together and they provided meals, clothing and shelter. But most importantly, they provided dignity.
It all started with a walk in the park.
You know our organization as BSC (Blessed Solanus Casey), and now a new chapter begins. In December 2026, Providence Place will open its doors—continuing this mission of compassion and care.
This is just the beginning--follow along and be part of the story.
“Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
