Located within Habitat for Humanity Greater Raleigh’s Old Poole Place neighborhood, Building Independence offers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to live more independently while receiving support from Lutheran Services Carolinas.

Another amazing community called My Forever Home opening not too far from us in Smithfield, NC. They have been so helpful to us as we navigate building these parent-led inclusive communities. My Forever Home facilitates adults with disabilities in transitioning to independent living. Rent is income based, aiming to be inclusive across the entire economic spectrum. We prioritize community building by organizing monthly activities to encourage friendships among residents, including shared meals and holiday parties to deepen relationships.

At Juniper Tree Village we love seeing other opportunities being created for individuals with special needs. So we are happy to report and share a new local community.
Building Independence Supported Independent Living Program, located within Habitat for Humanity of Greater Raleigh’s Old Poole Place community is now accepting applications.

Supported Independent Living offers adults with mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) the opportunity to live in their own homes or apartments while receiving individualized support from Lutheran Services Carolinas. Unlike group homes that provide 24/7 supervision, Building Independence focuses on fostering autonomy and independence, with LSC providing ongoing support to help residents successfully navigate daily living.

They are currently screening prospective residents for the 2-bedroom townhomes at Old Poole Place. We are excited to announce that Juniper Tree Village has officially been recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization!

This milestone brings us one step closer to creating an inclusive community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live with dignity, supported-independence, and belonging.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, prayed for, and believed in this mission. The journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to share what’s ahead.

We’re dreaming big for our amazing adults at Juniper Tree Village. We are looking for the right community partner to help make their forever homes possible in Apex or surrounding areas. 🤍

We are currently searching for:

🌳2–4 acres of donated land to build

🔨a building that could be renovated into housing
🏠A developer and builder with a heart for our mission

Our goal is to create safe, supportive, forever homes where adults can live with dignity, community, and purpose.

Thank you Stronger Than Labels Fitness for pushing our Jakob and others to their strongest potential!

Take on Tuesday with Mr Incredible my buddy Jakob at 2:30. His effort, energy & enthusiasm were all sensational this afternoon. He was determined and in the zone. His strength was fantastic as well. My buddy was working hard and kickin butt. His muscles and smile were in full effect. In fact, he had his personality working big time. All those small wins are paying off. Amazing job buddy!
