Peace Childcare Learning Center was able to purchase a variety of much needed items because of the generous funding provided by the United Way, through the Langlade County Dream Up Team. Our kitchen received a new stock pot, new silverware, and also some serving trays. Two toddler sized chairs help our 1-year-olds transition to eating and playing at tables. We can now gather more accurate body temperatures with 3 new ear thermometers. Two classrooms of children will more easily keep clothes clean while wearing new art smocks. The 3–4-year-olds were able to transition off easily torn foam mats and onto elevated sleeping cots. We are grateful!

The Weekend Backpack program operates from October to May and provides nutritional food that can be used to prepare meals for children in the Antigo School District, All Saints and Peace Lutheran School. Packs for the elementary schools are packed weekly by students from the Antigo High School. Each club or sports team from the high school is asked to come one week during the school year to help pack meals. Other community groups fill in where needed. Food is sent to the Antigo Middle School where packing is handled at the school. At the High School food is provided to a store setting where students can choose the foods they want helping them to learn to make good food choices. Supplies for the program come from a variety of business in the Antigo Area either as donations or purchases. The cost of the program is about $160 dollars per year per student. On a recent visit members of the Golf team were helping to pack bags with healthy meals.

At our United Way Board Meeting Tuesday Night, we had a visit by Special Olympics, one of our affiliates. The Antigo Special Olympics provides opportunities for people in the community with intellectual disabilities to engage in athletic activities and events. Being physically active helps with their mental and emotional health. They shared with us all the activities they participated in this past year and gave the United Way a big thank you!
