Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated The Anniston Alumnae Chapter was chartered on May 30, 1965, at the home of Soror Dorothy Banks. The National President at that time was Geraldine P. Woods.

The Southern Regional Director, Soror Maggie McDowell officiated. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance a

nd support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its’ founding more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. The Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. honors the life and legacy of our beloved Charter Member, Soror Bertha Trammell.

A dedicated educator and one of the visionary women who helped establish our chapter on May 30, 1965, Soror Trammell devoted 39 years to the field of education. Through her work at Cobb High School and Anniston High School, where she taught Algebra II and Trigonometry, she inspired generations of students to strive for excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Her commitment to academic achievement and student success earned her recognition as Teacher of the Year by the Anniston City School System.

Soror Trammell’s influence extended far beyond the classroom. She helped shape the future of countless young people and left an indelible mark on the Anniston community through her wisdom, leadership, and unwavering dedication to education.

We are forever grateful for her legacy of scholarship, service, and sisterhood. Rest well, Soror Trammell. Your impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.

The Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. honors the life and legacy of our beloved Soror Mary Frances Elston Williams, who entered eternal rest on May 28, 2026. Soror Williams faithfully served our chapter as a two-term Chapter President, Chapter Musician, and dedicated committee member. Her leadership, musical gifts, and unwavering commitment to sisterhood and service left a lasting impact on our chapter and community.

We will miss her dearly, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Last Saturday, the Anniston Alumnae Chapter proudly hosted our Annual Delta GEMS Cotillion!

Five exceptional seniors and six outstanding underclassmen were presented in a beautiful celebration of grace, growth, sisterhood, and achievement.

We are so proud of these young ladies and excited to watch them continue to shine!
