Before the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) voted to advance proposed changes to the Section 106 regulations, NAPC submitted a letter outlining our concerns.

The proposed revisions would significantly reduce opportunities for local communities to participate in federal decisions that directly affect their historic places. The changes were developed without meaningful stakeholder or public engagement and do not reflect feedback previously provided by preservation professionals and advocates.

As a recognized observer to the ACHP, NAPC supports efforts to improve the Section 106 process, but those improvements must preserve meaningful collaboration and ensure local voices remain part of the conversation.

We also encourage you to share your Section 106 success stories with us. Your experiences help demonstrate why local participation matters: https://forms.gle/Jqp9bjGp4DAL3qBK9
