LESLIE'S WEEK A Week Away from Cancer to Stage 4 BC Women and their families — Create Memories that Outlast Cancer. Who Are We? What do we do? Why do we do it? There is no cure.

We are LESLIE’S WEEK, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization for the benefit of Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer women and their families. We gift Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer women and their families a one week vacation in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains where they make “Memories that Outlast Cancer.” We have an Educational Assistance Fund for the children of our Stage 4 BC mothers. Our educational assistance program is awarded in the mother’s name and paid directly to the school. Our mothers have hope NOW for their children’s FUTURE. Breast cancer does not kill women; Metastasized Breast Cancer does. Statistics indicate that our Stage 4 women succumb to their metastasized breast cancer within 2 to 5 years. Stage 4 MBC family finances are toxic. Their limited funds are unable to support vacations or create precious family memories. How do we do it? We are an all-volunteer group. We collaborate with nationally recognized cancer institutes that nominate candidates for our vacations away from cancer. We ask for Stage 4 Breast Cancer nominations and donations through our web site. We hold fundraisers. We pray a lot! Please visit our web site, www.lesliesweek.org, to see how we impact lives. 💔 STAGE 4 BREAST CANCER DOESN’T CHECK YOUR AGE.

Think you’re too young for metastatic breast cancer? Think again.

Women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s are being diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

Some are still in college.
Some are planning weddings.
Some are pregnant or raising young children.
Some haven’t even had their first mammogram.

And some are being diagnosed with Stage 4 before they ever knew they had breast cancer.

Metastatic breast cancer doesn’t care how young you are, how healthy you are, or how much life you have left to live.

These are young women facing a disease that is treatable but currently has no cure.

💔 Imagine being told you have an incurable cancer when your adult life has barely begun.

Breast cancer isn’t just a disease of older women.

STAGE 4 HAS NO AGE LIMIT.

💚 We need more research, better treatments, and more time for EVERY generation.

Today, we honor the women and men living with metastatic breast cancer, remember those we have lost, and stand beside the families and caregivers whose lives are forever changed.

At LESLIE’S WEEK, we see the person behind the diagnosis. A mother. A partner. A friend. Someone who deserves joy, connection, support, and precious time with the people they love.

Through our mission of creating memories that outlast cancer, we help families make moments they can hold onto forever. ❤️

This October, think beyond the pink. Let’s turn awareness into action and advocate for:

🩵 More resources and family support.
🩷 More treatment options.
⏳ MORE TIME.

Savannah’s Breast Cancer Battle

We have some pretty exciting news to share. ❤️

On October 13th, which happens to be Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Savannah and I are heading to Nashville Tennessee to be a guest on Todd and Julie Chrisley’s podcast!! Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 so this hits home for them.

They invited us on to talk about Savannah’s story, being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at just 25, and what life actually looks like living with metastatic breast cancer. Not the polished version. The real version. The scary parts, the funny parts, the treatments, the uncertainty, the things people don’t see, and what it’s like trying to live a normal life when cancer is always sitting in the background.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re incredibly grateful that they’re willing to use their platform to help us bring more attention to something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention: metastatic breast cancer.

We’re sure it’ll be raw, honest, emotional, and probably very funny!

For us, this isn’t just about being on a podcast. It’s another opportunity to put a face and a voice to stage 4 breast cancer and hopefully make someone stop and realize that this disease doesn’t only happen to grandparents or older population. It happens to 25-year-old women. It happens to wives, moms, daughters, sisters and families who are still trying to build their lives.

We’re so excited, nervous, and incredibly grateful for this opportunity. Nashville, here we come. ❤️

🎗️ OCTOBER 13 — METASTATIC BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY

💔 WE HAD TO FIGHT JUST TO HAVE OUR OWN DAY.

In 2009, October 13 was officially recognized as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

Why did Stage 4 need its own day?

Because while the world was celebrating breast cancer survivors, those living with metastatic breast cancer were being left out of the conversation.

🎀 There is no end to treatment.
🎀 There is no ringing the bell and walking away.
🎀 There is no guarantee the next treatment will work.
🎀 There is no cure.

Approximately 117 women and men die from metastatic breast cancer EVERY SINGLE DAY in the United States.

Yet, out of 365 days, just ONE is specifically dedicated to recognizing this disease.

Tonight, buildings across the country will shine teal, pink, and green for , honoring those living with metastatic breast cancer and remembering those we’ve lost.

But when those lights go out tomorrow, the cancer doesn’t disappear.

Neither does the fear, the treatments, or the fight to stay alive.

WE DON’T NEED JUST ONE DAY OF AWARENESS.

💚 WE NEED MORE RESEARCH.
🩷 WE NEED BETTER TREATMENTS.
🩵 WE NEED MORE TIME.
🎗️ WE NEED A CURE.

We didn’t fight for our own day because we wanted attention. We fought because we wanted a chance to LIVE.

💚🩷🩵 OCTOBER 13 IS OUR DAY. BUT STAGE 4 IS OUR REALITY EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Tonight, the buildings will light up for us. Tomorrow, the lights will go out. But our fight to stay alive continues.

MEET THE METAVIVOR GRANT RECIPIENT: DAVID ENTENBERG, PhD! ✨
We are honored to highlight Dr. David Entenberg of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the important metastatic breast cancer research he is advancing through a METAvivor Translational Award. 💗💙💚

His research project, “Quantifying and Controlling Tumor Cell Re-Dissemination in Metastatic Breast Cancer,” explores how cancer cells may leave an established metastatic tumor and spread to additional areas of the body—and how that process might ultimately be controlled.

This METAvivor grant was funded by the Ambassador Team in loving memory of Jessica Moore and all those whose lives have been lost too soon to MBC.
We are honored to have David Entenberg share his expertise and shine a brighter light on the research working to develop better treatments and more options for people living with metastatic breast cancer.

Day 12

METAvivor was in Washington, D.C. last week for the Stage IV Stampede & Summit (Stay tuned for more info about participating in our MBC Ground Swell initiative in February – no travel is required!). Patient advocates met with legislators to continue working to pass the bipartisan “Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act” which would fast-track disability and federal healthcare benefits for the MBC community. Currently individuals must wait up to 24 months to enroll in Medicare AFTER waiting 5 months to receive Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. During this arbitrary waiting period, many MBC patients face incredible hardships in supporting themselves and may potentially experience disruption in care that can lead to further disease progression and even death. The median life expectancy for an individual diagnosed with MBC averages about 3 years, meaning many diagnosed with MBC may never actually receive the SSDI and Medicare benefits they are eligible for because they don’t outlive these waiting periods.

Federal programs that allow patients to bypass these waiting periods require that a condition be fatal within 6 months in 95% of cases, an impossibly high standard that will only be harder to reach as treatment options improve with research. MBC patients are penalized and care is jeopardized as a result of medical breakthroughs and improvements in life expectancy. Simply put, under current federal guidelines the average 36 months life expectancy post-diagnosis means MBC patients are living “too long” to get the benefits we need NOW.

Don’t ignore stage IV.

🚨 BREAST CANCER IS NOT JUST A WOMAN’S DISEASE!

When you hear the words breast cancer, you probably picture a woman.

But did you know MEN GET BREAST CANCER TOO?

💙 Approximately 2,800 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the United States.

💔 Around 500 men lose their lives to breast cancer annually.

And YES, men can develop Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, too.

Because breast cancer is often thought of as a women’s disease, men may overlook warning signs or delay seeking medical attention.

A lump in the chest, ni**le changes, or unusual swelling should NEVER be ignored.

Cancer doesn’t care if you’re male or female.

💚🩷🩵 STAGE 4 DOESN’T DISCRIMINATE.

Men deserve awareness.
Men deserve research.
Men deserve a fighting chance, too.
