Our second scholarship recipient is… Arsima Araya! Arsima is from Carol Stream and is heading to the University of Chicago! 🌬🏙 Let’s get to know Arsima a bit more:
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦? My personal and community experiences manifested my dream of studying law into a multitude of careers; an activist, community organizer, or legislator. As a lawyer, I will continue my advocacy for others, but evoke legal change with it. It is my duty to preserve and expand equality, just as my parent’s dreamed, and I aspire to do so through practicing civil and human rights law. As a University student, I will use my cumulative experiences to be a contributing member of classroom discussion and University sponsored social justice organizations where I can continue to learn and grow as a student and global citizen. I aspire to see a world where race, gender, religion, sexuality are contributing factors to our communities, not discriminatory. I hope one day I can inspire advocacy and equity into others just as Justice Sotomayor did for me.
𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟! I love doing yoga! My favorite yoga Youtuber is Arianna Elizabeth, her affirmations at the end of every session make waking up an extra 20 minutes early worth it!
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐌𝐢 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐚 𝐄𝐬 𝐓𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭? To be a Mi Casa Es Tu Casa scholarship recipient is so meaningful to me. To see an organization run by first generation/low income students for first generation/low income students is representation that I can do it too. We have unique stories and experiences that need to be heard by the world and Mi Casa is getting us one step closer to getting there.
Thank you for applying! Our team is wishing you the best at UIC, and once again a big congrats to Arsima!
