On Friday, The Quito Project hosted our fall semester workshop on "Breaking the Barriers of Voluntourism: Teaching ESL Abroad." Lead by Pamela Bogart, we discussed our roles as English teachers abroad, and what that may mean for communities in different countries. We are so grateful to the Latin American and Carribean Studies department, the English Language Institute, and the Language Resource Center for helping us make this event a success!

The Quito Project application is due THIS Friday, November 1st, 2019! Check out this testimonial from Senior Nick Farrugia, TQP Director of Outreach and Recruitment, on why you should consider applying. Nick traveled to Ecuador with TQP in Summer 2018, and studies Microbiology with a minor in Art and Design.

"I feel beyond fortunate to have spent my time abroad as a University student in Ecuador with The Quito Project. The program continues to be impactful in my life to this day. I have always loved working with kids in a classroom setting, and my time in Quito gave me a unique opportunity to do so, but I never thought I’d walk away from the experience with the new perspective that I now have. Working with such a wonderful group of kids in such a generous community gave me the realization that, as a STEM major, I want to gear my education and career path toward making a direct impact on my immediate and extended community. Despite the program duration only being a month long, watching the students grow and learn as individuals and as a group was incredibly rewarding, especially when considering the resource limitations we have as a student-run organization. To top it off, I was able to experience this journey with some of the best people I’ve met at UofM. I am proud of all the great work TQP has done and will undoubtedly continue to do moving forward. As I continue to embark on whatever endeavors the future holds, I know that I will take my experience in Quito with me."
