Members of the band had a tremendous time performing a chamber music concert at the Kerrytown Concert House this evening. May this be the first of many more recitals from our musicians to compliment our regular band season! Thanks to all who joined us tonight, and special thanks to Don Henig dhenig_clarinet for organizing the event!

Join members of the Ann Arbor Concert Band for an evening that celebrates community, craft, and live music in an intimate setting. This concert is a gift to our neighbors: a chance to hear members of the band perform in small, masterful ensembles for free.

A truly special moment is coming to the stage. 🎶

This work was commissioned by a consortium of wind ensembles to recognize Michael’s tremendous impact on the Grand Ledge High School Band Program and his lasting contributions to the wind band community nationwide.

Join us Saturday, May 9th, at 2 p.m. at the Michigan Theater as we celebrate a career dedicated to musical excellence and mentorship.

Meet the "Musical Wildflowers" of the band world. 🌸🎶

When Percy Grainger composed Lincolnshire Posy, he didn’t just want to write pretty songs—he wanted to capture the souls of the people who sang them. Armed with a (very high-tech for 1905!) wax cylinder recorder, Grainger traveled the English countryside to record folk singers and preserve their unique quirks, rhythms, and personalities.

The PBR Connection: 🍺
Believe it or not, this masterpiece was premiered in 1937 by the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer factory worker’s band in Milwaukee! But here’s the kicker: the music was so complex and revolutionary that the PBR band actually couldn’t finish the harder movements.

It’s a masterwork that remains a "bucket list" challenge for bands today. Come hear us take on what the beer factory workers couldn't! 🎺✨ Saturday, May 9th, 2 p.m. at the Michigan Theater! The Michigan & State Theaters - Marquee Arts

Spotlight: "Pageant" by Vincent Persichetti 🎷✨

Written in 1953, Pageant is a mid-century masterpiece that takes you on a journey from a quiet, chordal meditation to a vibrant, rhythmic parade.

Why it’s a big deal:
✅ Commissioned by the American Bandmasters’ Association.
✅ Conducted by the composer himself at its NYC premiere (a rare honor!).
✅ Features a finale so "polytonal" and energetic, it’ll leave your ears ringing in the best way possible.

Don't miss the chance to hear this legendary "parade" live! 🥁 Saturday, May 9th, 2 p.m. at the Michigan Theater! The Michigan & State Theaters - Marquee Arts
