We wanted to show how thankful we are to our teachers, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, custodians, andoffice staff. So as a token of appreciation for all the work they put in to make each student’s first day back to school so memorable, we brought cookies for each and every one of them at Westside Elementary. We hope this made their 1st day back a little brighter! Look at those smiles, it sure looks like they did!

Thank you for your service!

TxVFW proudly recognizes June 12 as Women Veterans Recognition Day.
On June 12, 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, allowing women to serve as permanent members of the United States Armed Forces. While women have answered our nation's call throughout American history, this landmark legislation formally recognized their place in the military, helping to pave the way for future generations of service members. In 2017, Texas joined approximately 16 other states in honoring women veterans on this day of observance, commemorating the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice, leadership, and dedication of the women who have served and continue to serve in our military. Their contributions have strengthened our Armed Forces, defended our freedoms, and inspired generations of Americans.

Women Veterans are the fastest-growing segment of the Veteran population, yet their stories are too often untold. On this Women Veterans Day, we encourage all Texans to recognize the women Veterans in their communities, learn their stories, and thank them for their service.
