It's with a heavy heart that we want to share that our sweet momma Coco has joined her 3 babies on the rainbow bridge last month.
We have been putting off making an announcement about her passing as this was truly such a heartbreaking loss. 😔
In rescue, we do sometimes receive piggies that are beyond our help but her passing left us speechless, she had been the picture of health for a young guinea pig. After her 3 babies passing we watched her & baby bean for every sign of something wrong but our worries had subsidized as time continued on and we noticed no symptoms at all. Coco had an extremely happy & alert attitude while zooming and popcorning at every moment we saw her. It had been a shock to find that she passed very suddenly, just hours after saying goodnight to her.
The vet confirmed that she was positive for pneumonia & Sepsis.
These were two conditions that we were confident in our ability to catch, with every intake we check their breathing, signs of nasal discharge, crusty feet from wiping their nose, cold ears and feet, lethargy, we even place cameras on our piggies cages to look back and ensure they are eating regularly. It has been very hard knowing we missed something like this in a piggy we watched so carefully.
It has been so hard knowing such a sweet piggy is gone, but we are so thankful we had had a chance to meet her. We truly hope she is in a better place now with her babies.
It's been a blessing that her daughter, baby bean, is still doing well. We have noticed no symptoms in her, but have placed her on antibiotics as a precaution, and we are so happy to know she already has a family waiting for her when she becomes available.
