Small Businesses are the heart of our local economy. They represent people who love Angier enough to stake their livelihood on our community. They employ some of the hardest working people in Angier. Many of them have given of their time, talent, and treasure to support initiatives within our beautiful town. And right now Local Small Businesses are Being Crushed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. If we want a vibrant Angier in September, then we must act now!
Leaders have come together in Angier to establish the Angier Angel Fund to provide Grants of up to $3,000 to local-owned, brick-and-mortar small businesses in Angier, NC. These Grants can be used to pay rent, make a dent in payroll, or for other vital operating expenses.
The Angier Angel Fund is being established in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect upon our community.
All small businesses are eligible who meet the following criteria:
independently owned
less than 50 employees
brick-and-mortar location in Angier
not a chain or franchise
When will the grant application become available?
The grant application will be available on Wednesday, April 1 . If you would like an application, please private message us on Facebook or email [email protected] or [email protected].
What will the application look like?
The grant application will be one page with a few questions. There will be no means testing, collateral, or a review of your finances. We trust small businesses to do what is right for their business and employees.
Who will make grant determination?
A 5-person independent body will evaluate grant applications and make all award decisions. We are working daily to determine who will serve on this independent board. Impartiality is our goal, and those who serve will be chosen carefully. However, we have determined, for example, that no Board Members from the Chamber of Commerce or the Angier Downtown Main Street Program will be eligible to serve in this body. We are in ongoing conversations to determine the makeup of this group. We welcome thoughts and input.
Who will receive grants?
We want to ensure grants are distributed as equitably as possible. To that end, we are targeting the following general distribution of funds to ensure everyone eligible has access:
2/3 of Grants distributed will go to small businesses in Angier that are either in the Downtown Mainstreet footprint or Members of the Chamber of Commerce (or both!)
1/3 of Grants distributed will go to small businesses that are either outside the Mainstreet footprint or not Members of the Chamber of Commerce (or both)
Who can give to the Fund?
EVERYONE! The fund will accept any donations no matter how large or small.
The entire economy is taking a hit right now, but not all industries are seeing an immediate impact. Some companies will not feel the real effects of this until later in the year. We are asking those companies and individuals to step up now with what they can spare. Perhaps you had a marketing campaign planned that is no longer happening, or a major renovation project that is on hold due to the COVID-19 crisis. We ask that you reprogram those funds and join us in giving the small businesses in Angier a shot in the arm when it’s needed the most.
Help give Angier Small Businesses a shot in the arm to make it through this pandemic!
