✨ Meet the founding families!
Five years ago, life took an unexpected turn for both the Armitage and Tourkistas families with the arrivals of their daughters, Remy and Olivia. Remy, Julee and Marshal’s youngest, was diagnosed with HNRNPH2, and Olivia, Angelica and Matthew’s firstborn, was diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid syndrome. These rare diagnoses brought big changes and new challenges, reshaping everyday life for their families.
Through their daughters’ journeys, the Armitages and Tourkistas crossed paths and found comfort, understanding, and support in one another. What began as connection soon grew into a meaningful friendship and a shared passion for making a difference in the rare disease community.
Inspired by their experiences and a desire to support other families walking a similar path, they came together to create the Rare Road Foundation.
