Our most recent blog post is about two friends, Nicole and Christina and how living liver donation saved her best friend's life.

“There was never any fear or uncertainty on my part, Christina said. There were questions and hesitations about what was involved, but there was always this peace surrounding it and an idea of 'this is what I have to do' because I wanted to do it. I also knew this was someone I loved deeply.”

For Nicole, the transplant meant something even bigger: a second chance at life.

A chance to continue raising her children. A chance to build new memories. A chance for more time.

When her best friend Nicole needed a liver transplant, Christina Haines discovered something many people do not know: living liver donation is possible. In this moving story of friendship, courage, and hope, Christina shares her journey from donor evaluation through recovery, and how one decision ga...

Today is the final day of our Transplant Heroes series. We have given transplant patients the opportunity to nominate a professional who made a profound effect on their journey.

Today is day #35 and this is Dr. David Hull. Though Dr. Hull made his Earthly transition in 2013, his legacy lives on.

David Roncari received his liver transplant on December 21, 2005. With that gift of life 21 years later, he nominated Dr. Hull by saying, “He was a real human being and cared. If it weren’t for him and his wisdom, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Your legacy continues, Dr. Hull. We welcome any other patients and those who worked alongside Dr. Hull to share any thoughts or memories of him and we will share them with his wife, Connie.

Thank you to everyone who was a part of this special series.

A patient can spend a few minutes with no heart during a transplant.

In that moment, their life depends on a decision someone else made long before.

Hartford Hospital surgeon Dr. Dina Al Rameni takes us inside the operating room and clears up the biggest myths about organ donation. From concerns about medical care to religious beliefs, she explains what is true and what is not.

Her message is simple. Organ donation is safe. It is regulated. And it saves lives.

Read the story and consider registering today.

We gave patients the opportunity to nominate a transplant professional who made a profound impact on their journey.

Today is day #34 of the series. This is Dr. Annmarie Liapakis.

“Dr Liapakis was the quarter back of my end to end journey.

As a patient facing the hardest reality of your life she provided guidance, inspiration and hope that made my journey and so many other journeys through transplant not only be a possibility but a reality. She is Different! She provides time for you as if you were here only patient. She inspires you to keep fighting. And as each obstacle arose she was on to solutions and next steps.

Throughout the waiting period she would get a sense of how you were doing beyond vital stats. She would check on your mind set and provide that kind of complete support, caring for all you are going through.

This is not only my opinion but that of all of her patients and colleagues.” -Kevin Prue, Liver Recipient
