Our Civitan Club was contacted and asked if we could present a patriotic program to 4th and 5th graders at Straughn Elementary School - and of course we said yes, we'd love to!

Tammie Evans took it and ran with it and did a wonderful job! She combined some history with information about the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War and on top of that, the creation of our National Anthem. She had those children saying "No taxation without representation" many times - loudly!!

When they went back to class, we gave them red, silver and blue Mardi Gras beads (they were thrilled!) and our Civitan Soldier Cards.

Then we visited all the Kindergarten - 3rd grade classes and handed out beads and soldier cards to all of them, as well. (in total, around 600 of each)!!

So our Civitan outreach is effective, and is working to help our community enhance patriotism and celebrate America's birthday, as well!

Yall know how much I love our country! And the Andalusia/Covington County Civitan Club is one of the most patriotic groups I’ve ever been affiliated with. So when they asked if I wanted to help them I proudly said “absolutely!”

Andalusia Civitan Club donates Candyland Christmas Half Marathon and 5K proceeds to Andalusia and Covington County school running programs.

Our non-profit Civitan group is selling yard/window signs to raise money for patriotic projects coming up that will honor America's 250th birthday.

We had these signs made up - you can put them in your yard or in your window - wherever you want to display them.

Help us celebrate America - and her 250th birthday!!!!!

Signs are $20 each and include the wire mounts... but they are only $10 for veterans.

Contact us here for more information - or, starting today, they will be available at the Blue Goose in Andalusia, on the first floor in the booth called The Honey Hole. You can purchase them there, as well.

Here's the drawing for the Cooking with Brenda Gantt stay. Ewing and Emily did a great job drawing the names of the winner, and the two other prize winners.

Our winner is Denise Hess from Wichita, Kansas. She wins the 2-night stay at Cottle House.

Our other two winners are Deborah Blakley from Benton, Arkansas and Brenda Munson from Chester, Virginia. They both win a "Civitan Care Package" that will have a Cooking with Brenda Gantt cookbook in it and an Alabama Christmas ornament made from Alabama clay, and some other locally-sourced things.

THANK YOU ALL so much for participating in this fundraiser. It is such an honor to be able to help celebrate America's 250th birthday this next year, and Civitan here plans to do it up big!!
