🎨 Participant Spotlight 🎨

Today we’re honored to highlight a participant who shared a powerful piece of artwork that reflects her journey. The quote in her painting represents both her past self and her present self. A blurred line runs through the middle — a reminder that the past is behind her and she is moving forward into her future with strength and purpose.

When asked what she enjoys most about the services she receives, she shared:

👉 “Housing. I enjoy the independence and the people who help me. The people here really DO help. I enjoy my time with people.”

How has participation in services helped you in your daily life:

👉 “Mentally and emotionally. They have helped me in more ways than one. People are there for me whenever I need help.”

One of her proudest moments has been discovering her voice:

👉 “Services have helped me become a self-advocate. I am gaining independence and learning that it is OK to ask for help. I don’t need to be fearful of asking.”

And her message to anyone hesitant to reach out for support is simple but powerful:

👉 “You don’t have to be fearful. The people here are helpful. They are available when you need them. Staff here are helpful in many ways. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!”

We are proud to walk alongside individuals as they grow, advocate for themselves, and build lives they enjoy. Her story reminds us that healing, independence, and hope are always possible.

As we welcome the New Year, our Executive Director shared this message with our staff—and we wanted to share it with our community too. The dedication and compassion of our team make a real difference every day for individuals with disabilities, their families, and our community as a whole. We’re grateful for the people who make this mission possible.

Dear Assets,

As we step into a new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work you do every day. Your dedication, compassion, and commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities make a profound difference—not just in their lives, but in the lives of families, communities, and society as a whole.

This year, let’s embrace the possibilities ahead with renewed energy and purpose. Every interaction, every act of support, and every moment of advocacy matters. You are not just providing services—you are creating opportunities, fostering independence, and building a world where everyone belongs.

The challenges we face are real, but so is our strength. Together, we can continue to break barriers, celebrate abilities, and inspire hope. Let’s make this year one of innovation, collaboration, and unwavering belief in the potential of every person we serve.

Thank you for being the heart of this mission. Your work changes lives—and that is something extraordinary.

Here’s to a year filled with progress, compassion, and shared victories.

Happy New Year!

In Alaska, the holidays can remind us of changes, distance, and loss—especially when family is far away. This season, let’s be gentle with ourselves and with one another.
Western Alaskan villages and families are in our thoughts. May we find comfort in connection, kindness, and shared strength.
Take time to rest, reach out, and honor your feelings. You’re not alone.
