This page has been created to coordinate with citizens of Anchorage who wish to be able to do something to help those in need but may not have the time to volunteer with the city ran homeless help program.
I have experienced what it is like to be homeless, and especially in the cold winter months, it is hard to just survive.
Anchorage has a huge homeless population, with the population including elderly, disabled and wheelchair bound people, very young adults, and even families with children. I have seen citizens that are not homeless treat those who are homeless like they are a nuisance, or like they aren’t people too. Homeless people are people, just like you, just like myself. They have feelings, they hurt just like us.
My vision for this is to be able to help homeless individuals by putting together kits to distribute that will actually be useful. These kits will include things such as thermal/space blankets or ponchos, hand/foot warmer packs, fire starters, matches, water, non-perishable food items, feminine sanitary products (for the women experiencing homelessness) and other items that will be useful to those in need.
In order to be able to do this and not break myself doing it, I am asking the community of Anchorage to donate items to help with this. I will post a list of items needed and contact info to be able to get them to me here shortly.
If you are able to assist by donating, you will be making someone’s life a little bit better by showing people in need that they are cared for, even by people they do not know.
