Purrlease join us this Friday at Summit Spice and Tea from 4pm-6pm for the First Friday Debut: Project Patcasso.

From our Young Purrson RePURResentative, Dalton!

"Dalton would love to invite you to his very own passion project, with the goal of finding a very special cat a home!
Pat is a beautiful tortoiseshell cat who has called the Alaska Humane Society home since 2018, when she arrived as a stray. She has a big personality, a loyal following of volunteers, and a heart that deserves a home of her own.

Life in a shelter can be overwhelming. Imagine living every day surrounded by a multitude of sounds, smells, and constant activity. For a cat like Pat, who can become overstimulated, it can be especially challenging. While she has a history of scratching or having a reactive response when stressed (which has led to bites), those who know and respect her boundaries see the incredible cat behind the behavior. In my four years volunteering with her, Pat has never once hurt me. She simply asks that people listen to what she's telling them.

I wish I could give Pat the forever home she deserves, but severe cat allergies in my household make that impossible. So instead, I wanted to find a way to share her story and celebrate everything that makes her special.

Introducing Project Patcasso
Inspired by videos of zoo animals creating art, I decided to showcase Pat's inner artist. Every painting you will see on display at Summit Spice and Tea was created by Pat herself.

Come join me for the opening of Project Patcasso on June 5th from 4pm-6pm at Summit Spice and Tea, 3030 Denali St, #2.

I would love to talk to you about the process of Pat painting and most importantly, about Pat herself. Each piece of art will have a QR code displayed beside it. If you would like to buy a piece, simply scan the code to purchase your own original Pat masterpiece.

Every purchase helps support the Alaska Humane Society and the cats waiting for their forever homes.

Come meet Pat through her art, share her story, and help me show the world that sometimes the most misunderstood souls have the most beautiful gifts to share." Dalton A.

Priscilla (ok we would love it if spelled like Purriscilla) came to visit our garage sale with her purrson and had a blast! We love seeing cats enjoying safe outdoor experiences using tools such as a harness! Catios are another outstanding option to provide your cat with the enrichment of the outdoors while keeping them and songbirds safe!

We’ll be here to 4pm!

Kuro is a gorgeous panther purrince has his "eye" on you. He came to our shelter from AACC and a horrible URI which affected his right eye. This left some scarring, however it does not impact his vision. Then a few months ago his left eye developed an issue so purrofound he had to have it removed (almost a year to the date the other eye was affected). The vet thought at first it was an autoimmune response, but the biopsy didn't show any evidence of that. We are still waiting to hear what could have caused it. He also has some hair loss on the back of one of his legs which we will be getting assessed as well. This could be from overgrooming (stressed while he was recovering) however we always want to do our best to get a diagnosis from our fab vet team.

Kuro recovered beautifully from the enucleation surgery, however we want to be very up front about his other eye. His purrever family will want to ensure their vet does routine checks on that other eye, just to be proactive with his care. He may eventually need the other eye removed if the same condition affects it in the future. At this time he is doing very well and our outstanding volunteer team continues to monitor him.

Kuro was a stray at AACC so we do not know his history with dogs and children. During his time with us at the shelter he has shown he is very independent and does engage with some of the younger, confident cats who are able to redirect him.

Kuro moves at lightning speed which can be confusing to the other cats and people. He can also get overstimulated when petting him, so it is very important that less is more. If Kuro is settled down for a rest, it is advised to leave him be. He loves to play and has the most adorable sprints around the shelter. He will play with feather toys, laser light and when he is settled down, enjoys a gentle pet or two. He loves his canned food and will race with you up the stairs to help you get treats ready for everyone. Though he would prefer you give him his own special dish on his pedestal. He has the sweetest face and will make you feel like you are the most special purrson in the world when you spend time with him.

Kuro’s ideal home is one that has experience with cats, will take time to learn more about his purrsonality, his idiosyncrasies, understand his body language and his dynamic with the other cats.

Cecil Buttons is a very shy sweet boy. However when you have earned his trust, he will tell you everything about his day and will allow gentle petting . He is such a handsome and loving sweetheart! Look at all the love emanating from those eyes.

What are some things our volunteers love about Cecil?
