On behalf of the Alaska Coalition of BIPOC Educators (ACBE), we extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who helped make the 2026 HUGSS Back-to-School Jam an incredible success.

Because of this community, thousands of students are walking into the new school year with more than just backpacks and school supplies they’re walking in with confidence, hope, and the knowledge that an entire community believes in them.

This event would not have been possible without the dedication and collaboration of so many people.

💛 Thank you to the families who came out. Thank you for trusting us, sharing your stories, and allowing us to be a small part of your children’s educational journey.

At ACBE, we believe that when a community comes together, we remove barriers and create opportunities. This event was never just about backpacks it was about investing in our children, uplifting families, and ensuring every student begins the school year knowing they are seen, valued, and supported.

We are proud of what we accomplished together, but our work doesn’t end here. The need continues throughout the year, and we invite our community to stay engaged through volunteering, partnerships, sponsorships, and advocacy so that together we can continue creating equitable opportunities for every child in Alaska.

The liberated future we all deserve is still being written.

Every August comes , a reminder that Black communities have always carried one another forward through generosity, audacious care, and collective investment. Be it a sou-sou, a Sunday offering, or a rent party, our giving traditions have always shown that small acts of collective care can meet a need, unlock an opportunity, or shape a generation.

🖤❤️💚 Juneteenth: Honoring Freedom, Investing in Our Future 💚❤️🖤

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” — Malcolm X

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we honor not only the day freedom was finally delivered to the last enslaved Africans in Texas, but also the generations who fought to ensure that freedom meant more than the absence of chains.

Freedom means access.
Freedom means opportunity.
Freedom means education.

Malcolm X understood that education is one of the most powerful tools for liberation. It equips us to challenge injustice, advocate for our communities, and build a future where every child can thrive.

At the Alaska Coalition of BIPOC Educators, we recognize that the work of educational equity is deeply connected to the legacy of Juneteenth. We continue to advocate for culturally responsive schools, equitable opportunities, diverse educator representation, and educational systems that affirm the identities and brilliance of all students.

Today, we celebrate our ancestors’ resilience, honor the sacrifices that brought us here, and recommit ourselves to the work ahead.

Because our history matters.
Our voices matter.
Our children matter.
