It’s a wrap for the 2025 Northern Lights and Sirens Girls Fire Camp. The camp is more than just young women learning firefighting skills from women firefighters. It's about building confidence, getting out of your comfort zone, challenging yourself, building new relationships and so much more!
The camp would not have been possible without each and every one of our incredible volunteers. We would like to shine a spotlight on two amazing Anchorage Firefighters who volunteered so much of their time and truly made the camp possible: Firefighter Emily Tyrrell and Captain Meghan McClain. Northern Lights and Sirens Girls Fire Camp is a collaboration stemming from their participation in Camp Blaze and Firefighter Tyrrell’s journeyman project. Both women worked a long time and put in an amazing amount of leg work to make the camp a reality right here in Anchorage. And because of their networking and relationships with other firefighters, so many volunteers traveled on their own dimes to support the camp.
Outside of , volunteers came from Girdwood Fire and Rescue, City of Fairbanks Fire Department, University Fire Department, Fort Worth Fire Department, Willow Caswell Fire Department, Central Mat-Su Fire Department, Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Palmer Fire & Rescue, Anchorage Health Department, Anchorage Fire Explorers , North Star Volunteer Fire Department Palo Alto Fire Department, , Olympia Fire Department Sacramento Fire Department
Special thanks to Peppercini's Catering, Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop, Umialik Insurance Company Anchorage Firefighters Local1264, , along with a few civilian volunteers who supported campers and the program!
The next camp is slated for 2027.
