Something new is taking shape in the Anacortes Creative District.

You may have noticed colorful new banners appearing throughout downtown. They're more than just a fresh look—they're the beginning of a new way to discover the people, places, and creativity that make our district so special.

Over the coming months, we'll introduce you to the artists, makers, businesses, and visionaries who bring the Creative District to life. Each will share one word that captures who they are and what inspires their work.

Stay tuned as we reveal our new look, share their stories, and celebrate the creativity that makes Anacortes unique.

Join us on Wednesday, July 1, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM as we celebrate the grand opening of the new Maritime Plaza, located directly behind the WT Preston at 713 R Avenue in Anacortes!

Come enjoy delicious offerings from Anacortes Farmers Market vendors, refreshments from Rockfish Brewery, and live local entertainment as we gather to mark this exciting addition to our waterfront community.

This project was made possible through funding from a Skagit County Economic Development Grant, helping create a vibrant new public space for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Drop in to the Forest Discovery Center to make nature art with us! Flower pounding utilizes plants to create a unique print onto material – and it’s just fun to do. Help us kick off our Art in Nature series as we explore nature’s way of printing.

All materials are provided unless you want to bring your own fabric or thick paper to use.

We Explored the Open-Air Gallery of Anacortes!

We saw the city through a new lens during the Creative District Walk at the Anacortes Walk Fest!

Downtown Anacortes proved to be much more than just streets—it was a true open-air gallery. We were led by Meredith McIlmoyle, Executive Director of the Anacortes Arts Festival, and Bob Hogan, an acrylic artist and board member of the Anacortes Arts Commission.

On this immersive stroll, we:

Discovered Art Gems: Explored striking public art and street art throughout downtown.

Heard the Stories: Learned the history behind the artists and their installations.

Explored Local Culture: Uncovered the community's rich artistic heritage and visited local studios and galleries.

It was a wonderful day to experience the creative spirit woven throughout our town.
